Question:

Are Kirby vaccums really worth the money?

This past weekend Kirby salemen made their rounds on our block. The gave free cleanings in hopes of selling their vaccums. We passed. But our neighbor next door bought one. Ready for this? $1,150.00!!! No money down either and $45.00 a month starting in September. Vaccum financing. LOL. They bought a new Kirby Sentria model. I tried researching on line for retail cost but found none. The salesman dropped the price $1,000 too. Jeeze... So my question is: Does anyone own a "new" Sentria and if so, how much are did you pay? I know Dysons are around $700.00 but $1,200 seems pretty steep to me. Did they get hustled I wonder? I don't pan on sharing any findings with them since they are locked into a contract with these Kirby people. What do you think? Amazing huh?

  1. She got off easy lol as I purchase a Kirby about 15 years and it was I think around $1500 but didn't know what I know now.  Will Kirby last longer then any vacuum you can get at Walmart, Yes but it still has a bag or filters as all vacuums do (even the new rainbow has a so called HEPA filter)but they all do the same thing and that is blow dust, germs, and bacteria back into the air creating an environment that is unhealthy for our families that is one of the reasons we have so many people with allergies today.  Germs and bacteria grows in warm, dark, dirty places our vacuum is a perfect place to grow them.  I recommend watching a presentation of the Oceanblue cleaning system, no filters just water cause you see anything with a filter will lose airflow therefore reducing the cleaning ability of cleaning and also a filter allows germs and bacteria to grow on it and when we turn it on it contaminates our home.  For more information on the Oceanblue contact John @ 337-254-8616

  2. I dunno, I got sucked into letting them do a demo in my house not too long ago. They are very pushy and wouldn't leave! I was getting so irritated...on the verge of irrate. The guy kept calling his boss to get the price and monthly payments to something I could manage. He was not taking no for answer! He kept telling me my current vaccum cleaner is disfunctional blah blah blah Finally got him to leave and I DID NOT buy a Kirby, they just made me so darn mad! I did get a free candle though! :o)

  3. my brother used to sell them and my mom bought one, yea they work good, but they are REALLY heavy, get an Oreck, they are the best!!!!

  4. Lol. that brings me memories, my husband worked as a "Kirby door-to-door salesman" it is a tough job!

About the Kirby and the value X product:

Is it a good machine? yes from time to time my husband would find someone with a kirby that was over 10 years old, still working and they would take it as a trade in (then again those sales men will take any model as a trade in! lol)

Is it worth 1,500.00?? Keep in mind that it is a multi level company so the price from the factory keeps growing as it passes to the regional managers, then franchisees, than office managers, field managers and finally the poor sales guys......... it is a whole lot of hands in those cookie jars!

That is why is so expensive! If it would go from the factory to a store, would be much, much cheaper.

So if I need a new Kirby I just go to an used vacuum store, and buy one "generation kirby" before,  they are still good, basically the same product with half the price. They  come out with a new model every couple of years.

If I had money to throw out of the window, I wold buy a new one with all the attachments, shampooer and all. I love the machine, but don't share the same feelings towards the company that makes it.

  5. We had a kirby that we paid a fortune for also.  In my opinion, they are NOT worth the money.  I didn't find them to be any more effective that other types.  Mine didn't last very long either, even though they are said to last for many years.  To get them repaired you have to take or send them to certain dealers. (more expensive)  There was nothing special about them that I saw.  So sad for your neighbors!!
