We went out and bought a bunch last year they look great an are supposed to last longer but when we put them up this year half the string wasn't working. The same problem that sent me buying new mini lights every other year. With the mini lights and outdoor bulb of the past you could at least replace a bulb if it burnt out but the LED's you can't replace the bulbs. Are they really a better choice? I understand being energy effiecient is important but are thes bulbs recycleble or do they just end up in the land fill?

  1. There are LED's with the standard edison base that will last over 100,000 hours, a LIFETIME bulb.  They may be $50 each, but they last forever.

    Lets see 100,000/5 hours a day of use = 20,000 days/ 365 days in a year = 54.79 years.

  2. Try going through and shoving the LEDs back into their sockets.  If one comes loose, half your string will go out as your described. You can replace the LEDs in the chtistmas lights just like you can replace the bulbs in one of those  standard types.

  3. They are more energy efficient and last up to four times longer, thus making them more environmently friendly because they produce less waste.

Sounds to me like you just got a bad string and it should not have done that.  Write the manufacturer about this.  All bulbs no matter if they are LED or normal, always end up in our landfills.

  4. You can replace individual LED bulbs.  My outdoor LED string came with 2 extra bulbs.
