  4. Ladybugs are fabulous in the garden.  Both they and their larva are aphid-eating machines!  Make sure they are red. There is another beetle that looks like a ladybug, but is green.  This is a potato beetle, and will eat the garden.  Ladybug larva look like little black "worms" with a red or orange stripe on their back.  The pupa of a ladybug looks like bird droppings, and is usually in the center of a leaf.
