Setting aside the elected governing powers, is the direction of cultural trends moving the way you want it to?

i.e.:

g*y marriage

immigration

social programs

separation of church and state

gun control

animal rights

environment

etc.

  1. Change is inevitable.  I don't understand why conservatives fight it so much; it's a losing battle.

  2. nothing is good enough for them

  3. I'd be MORE happy if our government didn't try to intrude in on our most private moments--while taking away our most basic rights guaranteed under the Constitution; because one little act of terrorism scared them into acting most dishonorably.

  4. let's talk about another trend.  How about divorce.  if you do some research , you will find that Republicans are leading the way there.  are you happy that marriage is no longer important to Republicans and Conservatives???

  5. I don't know, I havn't asked them all. But I'm sure O'Reilly knows.

  6. I'm not a liberal but on

g*y marriage: No, they should be able to marry

immigration : No, they should be allowed to stay

social programs : No, social security is bankrupt

separation of church and state : No, Bush has made a mockery of it

gun control : No, control? where is it?

    animal rights : No opinion

environment : No, our environment is being destroyed to profit a few rich companies i/e Exxon/Mobil

  7. g*y marriage:  Yes, California is getting it right and I wish the U.S would stop being a bunch of bigoted puritans and make this country a truly free country by allowing two consenting adults who love eachother to marry eachother.

    immigration:  NO

Social Programs:  NO, cut off welfare to the rich by closing the tax loopholes to corporations and by raising taxes on those who make all their money off investments from 15% to 35% like the rest of us pay.

Separation of church and state:  NO, they are not separate enough.  Keep the church out of government and the government out of the church.  Tax all churches who cross that line.

Gun control:  Not everyone should own guns. We don't have any gun control as it stands. There should be mandatory tests like Japan has and there should be major background checks.  There also should be a law against buying guns over the internet like how the Virginia Tech student got his gun.

Animal rights:  There should be limited testing on animals and there should be laws to protect animals from abuse.

Environment:  I believe that if we change our national energy form from being dependent on oil to a much more green economy that we can not only create millions of new jobs but that we could cut down on pollution of our air and water in very dramatic ways.  We need to take care of this planet because its the only one we have.  We don't sh*t all over our house, we shouldn't be doing the same to our home called the planet earth.

  8. Happy with the general direction, yes.  I only wish we could speed up the change though.  Sometimes I get a bit impatient.  But with white America becoming a minority by 2042, and the eventual demise of the Republican party that will accompany that demographic trend, I have a lot of hope for the future.

  9. Mr. Honorable Roosevelt,

There is no excuse for the direction in culture in regards to handouts, affirmative action, immigration, gun control, etc.

It is, however, acceptable for the proper separation of church and state.

  10. No one is satisfied.

It almost seems as though the Conservatives win one, then the Liberals win one.

The DC gun ban was deemed unconstitutional and California allowed marriage. Neither group won't be happy until we are a communist state. The "Liberals" openly want big government and loose society. The "Conservatives" say they want small government, but actually want big government with tight cultural morals. Neither side will be happy until everything goes their way all the time.

This is not entirely realted, but I must add that there is heavy gun control (r1b1c*). The thing is, it doesn't work. Statistics from government and private sources routinly show that stricter gun control almost always leads to higher crime rates, but that is for another question.

  11. I don't think I fall under the banner of liberal, as that is not what I consider myself.  However, I think most very conservative people would probably consider me as such so I'll jump in.

    .e.:

g*y marriage- Yes I am happy to see that states are allowing g*y people to marry.  I really see no reason why two adults who love each other should not be given this right.  I've never understand why this  has been a political issue.  I think allowing states to choose is the best option we have at the moment.  Not every state in the union is the same.  However, this isn't a long term solution as it's akin to allowing some states to choose segregation. In reality it should be up to the churches if they want to perform g*y marriages or not, since this is more of a religious issues.  It shouldn't be a political issue at all.

immigration- I don't think we have addressed this issue correctly at all. I don't have an answer to it, but I don't believe it is right to enter a country illegally.

social programs- I think many are failures, social programs should not be a block to success, rather they should foster success.  The programs we have now do not do that.

separation of church and state- Well, we need more of this, because if we did, g*y marriage wouldn't be an issue on the table.

gun control- I don't think we will ever come to a total agreement on this one.  Guns are out there, it's impossible to take them back at this point.  What needs to happen is greater control so that guns stop getting into the wrong hands.

animal rights- I think there is greater awareness of this issue, and that  is a step in the right direction.

environment- We have lagged so behind on the environment it's not even funny.  We really have to step it up in that area.  We would've been nearly weaned off of oil years ago had we taken it as seriously as we should take it.

  12. g*y marriage-Let them. Doesn't have to be at a church as that is separate from the government. Really, who cares? Straight people have already destroyed the sanctity of marriage with divorce.

immigration-I'm undecided, both sides have valid points, I haven't formed a valid opinion on it for myself yet.

social programs-We need to come to some sort of middle ground(Personally though I believe everyone should have there basic necessities to live, without worrying of the cost(job or no job).

separation of church and state-The reason people came here in the first place.

gun control-This is one issue I agree 100% with the right on.

animal rights-Depends, like PETA animal rights or Anti-Michael Vick types animal rights?

environment-One subject I'll admit to being ignorant on, I know little about this topic.
