Question:

Are LimeWire and Norton AntiVirus Okay for a Mac?

So, I just got the MacBook Air, and I want to download LimeWire, but I'm not sure if it's okay for a Mac. Like, is it likely to cause a virus or will it be rejected because it's kind of the free version of iTunes, which, like Macs, is made by Apple. Basically, will downloading LimeWire cause any problems for my computer?

That said, I want to be safe and download Norton AntiVirus, just in case I do somehow get a virus from LimeWire, but I'm also not sure if that comes in a version for Macs or if it will cause any problems on my laptop. Anyone know?

  1. macs dont get viruses as much as pc's. but just incase yea you can get it. or you can get avg which is just as good and free, im not sure they have a version for mac though

  2. Yeah, they should work. When you download limewire, just make sure to select the mac operating system in their download page. There should be a list of operating systems when you click download. I am pretty sure norton should work to. But there are definetly gonna be some compatability issues because norton was designed for windows.

  3. yes to limewire i know ppl that have it for their mac. Norton antivirus on the other hand i am not sure about. but when you go to download it it should have a mac version

  4. yes.

    mac is immune to everything.

  5. NONO

  8. well, I have frostwire on my Macbook, which is just like limewire, only tons faster and easy to use.  look it up just go to frostwire.com.    and btw, it works great on my mac    (better than it did on my old dell)

  9. yes because i have those but like we got a new limewire b/c it got erased so yeh

  10. VERY slim chance you will get a virus cause not many are made for mac cause there are so few users and it's alot harder (apparently)

There is a mac version of limewire but limewire stinks I think. just go to www.isohunt.com and .torrent

  11. lime wire will ruin your hardrive

  12. While there is a Mac version of LimeWire, I would recommend Acquisition instead:  It's much more responsive with a better interface.

While there are currently no true viruses that affect a Mac, your Mac can act as a carrier for viruses when sharing files (giving viruses to Windows users you send/share files with).  ClamXav is a piece of free Anti-Virus software for which there is a Mac version.

    See sources for links.

EDIT - Worth mentioning that the other software by Dave Watanabe (the Acquisition developer) will make your life as a Mac user a happier one.

  13. go to download.com and search for limewire and you'll see a version for Windows and Mac it should have an apple next to it

  14. lime wire doesnt give u viruses its the files u download so b careful in what u download n scan the files b 4 installn'em

  15. I wouldn't worry about getting viruses. There aren't very many made for macs because there are so many more PC users.

  16. HOW MANY PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THAT MAC IS A VIRUS LESS COMP

    IT CANNOT POSSIBLY GET VIRUS!!!

  17. i have Trend Antivirus and if limewire is bout to finish downloading a file thats a virus a big thing comes up and says do you want to stop it.
