You always see lovebirds in pairs, are they okay if you just have one? And are they friendly and okay with contact?

(Please don't guess, only answer if you know.)

Thanks!

  1. love birds are very social, they tend to bond very strongly...

if that bond is with a person...they make wonderfull velco pets, they want to be with you ALL the time...however in these cases they often suffer seperation anxiety and dont like being left alone in their cage for hours at a time.

a hand reared love bird can make a great pet...

they love attention and being touched and just hanging out on your shoulder with you... however they are parrots and can be rather noisy for such tiny birds.

a parent raised love bird or a love bird with a second love bird as a companion can be a good pet...however there wont be that super strong bond with you, a love bird with a companion will be happier when left alone for longer periouds...if handled frequently they will often be happy to come out of their cage for scritches and playtime, but there not as stressed when caged due to having a companion...

a pair of hand raised lovebirds handled frequently can be great pets.

parent raised tend to be harder to aclimate to human touch.

  2. Lovebirds are great, even if you just have one.  Especially if you want to deveope a good bond with them, it's best to own just one. You can own a pair but it may be hard to hand tame them, and they probably won't be very interested in you. Lovebirds can handle being home alone for a couple hours while you are at school or work, but you do need to spend quality time with them daily.

  3. well its always best to have two birds to keep eachother company . i m not sure if its that affective my friend had two love birds but they didnt like eachother until one of them died he was a happy bird but hes kinda vesious . but mostly all of them are friendly all birds are.. ^^

  4. yes, lovebirds are very friendly.  they can be left alone but must have attention daily. i recommend 1 and a half to two hours a day. if you want cage birds  finches would be a good idea.

i recommend having one bird in each cage. if you have two(like conure chick said) they might bond to each other rather than you.

if you want one, do tons of research!
