I know that males are generally lazy, but do they like to run around and explore occasionally?

  1. You rat will probably be most active the closer you are to night.  Since males are known for being a bit more lazy than females, I'd try playing with the boys after dinner, since they'll probably be more alert.  Obviously it really depends on the rat.  It is quite possible to have a very active male rat.  That being said, a male rat is not going to act like it is in a coma or anything....

    Hope that helps!

  2. It really depends on the rat. Some males are very active like females and some females are very lazy like males. So it really comes down to the rat!

  3. All rats are active and like to explore, but it does depend on the individual rat. At one point I had only 2 of the 12 rats that actually wanted to come out of the cage and look around. Other times I've had all but one rat want to come out. It just depends on the rat really. As for male vs. female- I prefer male rats, simply because they are less flaky and tend to be a little more personable than the females- they also get along better with rats of the same s*x.
