Question:

Are Man-Made Contributions to CO2 Causing Global Warming on Jupiter?

Okay, for all those kool-aid drinkers who think that it's Man's production of CO2, not solar activity of the Sun, that is causing Global Warming (never mind that there has not been a rise in temperature in 10 years, and 2007 gave us the largest cooling temperature of 0.70°C), how do you explain Global Warming on Jupiter? A Coincidence? SUVs? Or solar activity, like here on earth?

  1. Not only Jupiter but Mars too.

  2. Why are some people so quick to claim extraterrestrial global warming while at the same time denying global warming on Earth?

"The evidence for Jupiter’s global warming is nothing of the sort. It is evidence that there are warm spots, with storms rising to the tops of the clouds. This may just be a local effect, and not global. Jupiter’s atmosphere is fiendishly complex, and not well understood. If you’ve ever looked at the planet through a telescope, you can clearly see thick horizontal bands across the disk; these are enormous wind patterns that dwarf the Earth. A few years ago, one of the dark bands disappeared completely. For reasons unknown to this day, it sank a bit in the atmosphere, and opaque clouds covered it up. I saw it many times through my ’scope, and it was bizarre. Then, after a while, it reappeared, just like that. My point: any claims about Jupiter’s atmosphere when it comes to global warming must be approached very carefully. We don’t understand the dynamics of that system."[1]

Edit, Note for Mr Krinkle: You really need to work on your reading comprehension; from your article:

[Quote] “The conventional theory is that climate changes on Mars can be explained primarily by small alterations in the planet's orbit and tilt, not by changes in the sun.

"’Wobbles in the orbit of Mars are the main cause of its climate change in the current era,’ Oxford's Wilson explained. (Related: "Don't Blame Sun for Global Warming, Study Says" [September 13, 2006].)

“All planets experience a few wobbles as they make their journey around the sun. Earth's wobbles are known as Milankovitch cycles and occur on time scales of between 20,000 and 100,000 years.

“These fluctuations change the tilt of Earth's axis and its distance from the sun and are thought to be responsible for the waxing and waning of ice ages on Earth.

“Mars and Earth wobble in different ways, and most scientists think it is pure coincidence that both planets are between ice ages right now.

"’Mars has no [large] moon, which makes its wobbles much larger, and hence the swings in climate are greater too,’ Wilson said.” [End quote]

  3. Oh sure! Also, this is what caused Kryton to explode and as the result we got Superman!  Ain't it wonderful!

  4. If the believers could link man with Jupiter you know they would start trying to raise taxes.

The believers can't even link co2 on Earth to any climate change.

Both Mars and Venus have atmospheres that are 95% co2 and the climates on each planet are completely different.

The atmosphere of Mars is closer to that of Earth's as Mars atmosphere is about 40% thiner than our own planet.  Venus' atmosphere is 92 times thicker than ours, or is the same thickness of our planet if you were standing on Earth's outter core.

  5. Belief in AGW doesn't come from science, it comes from a shared faith.  People aren't going to stop believing in AGW just because the scientific evidence says we have negligible effect on the climate.

  6. Will you guys stop?  I mean, oh my god!   Fat people cause global warming,  cow's farting and hair sprays.   lol

  7. Sun is made up of Hydrogen and Helium so there is no Carbon in it. Carbon is only found in organic compounds which I think so are only on Earth and hence carbon is present on Earth and reason for GW. Now about Jupiter, there is no life, no carbon and hence no GW. And as proven sun doesn't have carbon, its not global warming which is affecting Jupiter. As said by my some honorable friends, Jupiter is heated up due to increasing temperatures of sun and not due to GW. IF you wanna argue contact me: kap_asl_ali@yahoo.co.in

  8. The increases in CO2 on earth are directly over populated land masses -- indicating that they are indeed man-made.  If we were to find that CO2 levels on Jupiter were also increased over population centers on Jupiter, then yes that would indicate that they too are man-made.

  9. A SURVEY WAS TAKEN BY 31,000 SCIENTISTS AND THEY ALL AGREE THAT GLOBAL WARMING WAS'NT CAUSED BY ANYTHING MADE BY MAN

  10. the temp on jupiter is not related.

the implication is that the sun is getting hotter.

    it's not.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_varia...

    there is a slight variation.

    but it's almost none.

look at the scale on the left of the graph.

there is about a 0.1% difference between the minimum and maximum.

it's not the sun that's causing the problem.

  11. i don't think so that's impossible(so far)

  12. You cannot read the public internet and find any credible information on global warming.

I know that not a single peer reviewed article ever published disagreed with you about the sun causing part of the global warming. In fact, it is very simple to measure the sun's radiation and calculate how much can be attributed to the sun.

Just one unreviewed study found that there has not been any global warming in the last ten years, and that one was the first measuring the oceans instead of the atmosphere.  We have to wait until it is reviewed and repeated independently before we even consider that one. Until it is reviewed and repeated independently it could be something as simple as an arithmetic error.

Finally, no peer reviewed article ever published refutes that global warming is caused by man releasing CO2 into the atmosphere. Though a small number say that the consequences will not be as bad as most models suggest.

We can all agree that none of know what the real consequences of man made global warming can be known. It could be great for man kind.

I think it is a bit irresponsible to represent that you understand or even have researched this matter if all of your knowledge came from non edu web sites, or if you give any credence at all to non peer reviewed articles. There will always be charlatans or even real scientists that will want to publish their work on the internet without a review. That does not mean that their work does have merit, it just means that real scientists will not treat it as more than a curiosity until it is. Now ask yourself how I know that all of your research came from information other than scientific journals.

There are not 31000 scientists qualified to make a judgement about global warming; moreover, there not being a governing body that awards the designation scientist it is possible for you to call yourself a scientist. There are more than 31000 geologists and chemists working for the oil, gas, and coal industries and they are scientists. Real scientists do not use petitions to publish their work. They use peer reviewed journals. A petition means that they have done no research.

You are messing with very dangerous things here, possibly leading to extinction of man kind and treating it as a fun argument. Nobody can research this subject on the internet. You have to have access to a university library. The information you need is just not published on the internet. I can tell you that there are no articles published in any scientific journal that dispute that there is unusual global warming created by man. I have read them ALL on my University Library.

  13. Lightening can cause Forest Fires.

    Humans can cause Forest Fires.

2 completely different things can produce the same effect at different times or in different locations. The warming of Jupiter has absolutely nothing to do with the global warming of Earth. If you'd "bothered" to read the links on your own link page (before posting this) you would have learned that.

  14. You and I are standing outside on a cloudy day.

I have the flu and a temperature of 100.5

    You're wearing a sweater.

Suddenly the sun comes out. We both feel hotter.

Clearly, my flu is causing you to feel hotter. But that can't be it, so obviously I don't have the flu.
