I'm looking at a baot that has a 1991 100 Mariner and want to know if it was a good motor or if it's junk.

  1. yes, they are a pretty well know brand

  2. Mariner is a brand used by the Mercury Marine Company for sales outside the United States.

A Mariner outboard will have an identical model under the Mercury name.  Mariners are painted a different colour, and have different decals, otherwise identical.

A 100 hp 1991 Mariner will be the same as a 100 hp Mercury from 1991.

  3. I have a 4 cyl mariner I have had for years and it is a very good engine, seems a bit harder on gas than my johnson of the same horsepower but they are on different boats so very difficult to make an actual comparison.

I have agree with Noah, Merc and Mariner are the same under the skin, I know all the parts I buy have Mercury numbers.

I think the difference is like the difference between Evinrude and Johnson: I.E. none.

What you are looking at sounds like a nice motor, I would not be afraid of it.

  4. mariners are pretty good motors i have a couple never have any problems

  5. Mariner and Mercury are Like Chevy and GMC, Same dress different color.

  6. Mariner is not the name that Mercury uses for it's overseas sales.  Mariner used to be Mercury's saltwater division.  Mercury is sold as Mercury overseas.  If they used the Mariner name for overseas sales, then why are there so many Mariner engines here in the United States?

Mariner engines are just as good as Mercury since they're made in the same facility using the same parts.  The two that I've owned have been cold-blooded but once warmed up, they're fine engines.

  7. pretty decent.
