Question:

Are Members In The US Military Allowed To Purchase Products Of Cuban Origin?

As we all know over in the US there is an embargo between the US and Cuba that prohibits trade between the 2 countries.

Since the military has a base in Cuba and since the military does a lot of traveling than most people (the rest of the world has no trade embargo), does that entitle the military to Cuban products?

  1. Last time i checked most of the military are US Citizens or legal aliens, so no were not allowed to to have cuban products.

You can buy them in canada i know for a fact seeing as how i live here and yes they are great!

  2. No, you still may not buy Cuban products, regardless of where you live or where you buy them from.

And if you are military, you had better not be caught with anything in your possession.  They are illegal goods.  They will confiscated and you could be brought up on charges of having illegal contraband.

    Not a plan!!

  3. Actually, the embargo only exists between the United States and Cuba, so you can purchase Cuban products in most other country's, and the U.S. has no jurisdiction on the matter. I went over to Canada last year, and you could buy boxes full of authentic Cuban cigars, and no one from the U.S. was going to stop you or care. The only real issue is trying to smuggle them back into America, that's the illegal part.

As for Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, it's basically a forty mile base of isolation, and once your on it, you don't leave it. Guantanamo Bay is like a large embassy, it's technically our land, but we're still at odds with Cuba and no U.S. citizen is authorized to visit or vacation there as of now. I know for a fact that you can buy Cuban cigars in Canada, but I doubt that Navy retailers sell them, because that would be illegal after all.

  4. No products from cuba are allowed in the United States. Period. That is, if they find out you have them. For instance, if you were to go to the Caribbean and by Cuban-made cigars, customs will confiscate them if you try to bring them on US soil. Again, if they know you have them. Since cigars are the only thing coming out of Cuba that you can't get anywhere else, that is really all thy are concerned about.

In the case of Guantanamo bay, the Marine Corps base, that is considered a piece of American real estate, therefore, no Cuban products are sold

  5. No. Even though the base is on Cuban soil, the PX or Exchange does not carry Cuban products.

  6. I don't know about GTMO, but I imagine you cannot buy Cuban products legally there.  I do know that while I was deployed the Bn Chaplain bought Cuban cigars left and right and handed them out.

  7. Since it is illegal to import Cuban products, I have to say no.  Then again I love their cigars and before I retired would stock up when ever the ship hit Hong Kong or anywhere else I could get them.
