Are Mercury outboard motors made in Japan by Mercury or someone else (Tohatsu)?

I want to buy a new 4 stroke and I want to know if it's a re badged something else.

Mercury had been sharing motor desings with company like Yamaha for years. (i.e.) would be in 1999 if you bought a Yamaha 25hp motor it was really Mecury design. Yamaha would rather you not sell someone the motor because they where not happy with Mercury's design but it was a partnership thing they had worked out with Mercury. None of Mercury motors ues any Yamaha designs. The best motors on the market are Yamaha. If you don't believe me watch a show where someone is in a t**d world counrty and look what enging they have on the back of their boat. 90 pecent of the time it's a Yamaha because they know theres not a part dealr right down the street and that it's made to last.( 2 or 4 stroke). So is Mercury made in Japan may be or just part of  the design is for another company. It's been happing for years now so buy what you like and what you can afford. Just stay away from johnrudes the suck the gas.
