  1. Not very many of them at all, only the local dirty fast food joint.

    Kitchener

  2. More in the US, I think

  3. What US Mexican restaurants? It's almost all Tex-Mex.

Which is popular here, too, but not quite as much.

More authentic Mexican restaurants are starting to show up here, but not in great quantity.

Edited to add: the 'Lone Star' is pretty good, but Mexican? No.

  4. I don't think Mexican restaurants are as popular here in Canada. We do have the larger fast food chains like Tacotime and Taco Bell, but in the hierarchy of fast rood restaurants, these are not very popular.

There is a chain of faux-Mexican restaurants called Julio's Barrio which is kind of like Tacotime, only a bit fresher and with more atmosphere and higher prices. But again, not super-popular.

Generally, I think most people like Mexican food, but with the low concentration of genuine, good quality Mexican restaurants, it's hard to get people to choose Mexican over more easily available ethnic foods, like Vietnamese or Indian.

  5. In fact, other than peasant food tacquerias authentic Mexican food is not such a big thing in the U.S. either.  Rather it is Ca«l-Mex, Tex-Mex, Am-Mex, etc., etc.  Other than tacquerias probably less than 5% of Mexican restaurants in the U.S. serve classic and genuinely regional Mexican dishes.

  6. In southern parts of USA

  7. I definitely think they're popular here in Canada, but since USA is known to have a large spanish population, most likely it's not as popular here, but still well liked.

  8. no there not because in canada there are not many spanish so there arent many mexican resrunts

  9. I can think of about ten decent ones in Vancouver.

  10. There aren't many here. The fast food ones do ok but aren't in many locations.

  11. Yes they sure are. espousaly in Surrey BC. A frind of mine lives there and they love it I cant remember the name.

  12. Mexican Food Restaurants (other than the standard fast food Taco Bell) have met with success in certain areas accross Canada. I lived in Ottawa for a number of years where the Lone Star chain started out. This Tex Mex offering has spread accross Canada and the US. And sorry for the bad news all my American friends, but the Lone Star franchise started in Ottawa back in the mid 80's. It was started by a gentleman named Val Belcher who played pro football in Ottawa and retired from that into the restaurant business. Being from Texas, starting up a Tex Mex place seemed a natural fit.

Ottawa also has a few other noteworthy Tex Mex places, my favourite being Mexicali Rosa's.

I have note found anything of note in the GTA yet on the Tex MEx front.

  13. Considering there are population differences between our two countries we don't have as many restaurants  as you do in the U.S.

I guess if you were to go by each major city in each province it may vary.  I also think it would depend on how much Canadians like mexician food.

I have liked some mexican restaurants my self and I can't speak for the rest of the posters or even have a clue how many people like it or don't like it?  I like to try different foods of various cultures.

Here take your pick.  I don't know if they are not all listed off hand but they list 123 across Canada.

This site is canadian but you have to search for it for each province.

  14. There are many good ones in Vancouver. Geographically Mexico borders the U.S so naturally there will be more Mexican influences there.
