She said- I will put emphasize on "believing women" in the verse you quoted. Now would Christians be considered believers when they referee to Jesus as "Allah's son". You are basically putting in your own interpolation by claiming the Quran is talking about Jews and Christians.

  1. muslim men are allowed to marry ahlul book but if u think this prove lbw with ahlulbook right u r rong beause love before wedding is not allowed in islam this is rare matter because Allah says in Quran u can marry theirs women but they should not be mushriq and they should have character

  2. Some scholars say yes, some say no, i support the yes people.

  3. The person you speak above is not Umar Al-Khattab (ra), but his own son, Abdullah bin Umar or commonly known as Ibn Umar (ra).

You see, the above said was his stand. He would prefer not to marry a woman from the People of the Book for he thinks that it would be blaphemous to marry someone who ascribed partners with Allah. However, it is clearly stated in the Quran that Muslim men are allowed to take women from the People of the Book as wives. This practice is highly discouraged when there are Muslim women to choose from.

The Prophet (pbuh) took wives from the People of the Book not because of his desires, but to protect these women from being insulted and humiliated. For example, when he took Safiyyah (ra) as his wife, he took her as because her whole clan was killed in a battle. If the Prophet (pbuh) did not do what he did, then Safiyyah (ra) would live a very hard life due to the fact that she was a Jew and no one would take her as a wife.

  4. They shouldn't do it. They can only marry Jews, who are monotheistic in belief. Christians have prescribed partners with allah (SWT).

  5. Well, any Muslim whether man or woman, is not allowed to marry any person who ascribe divinity with Allah.

2:221 AND do not marry women who ascribe divinity to aught beside God ere they attain to [true] belief: for any believing bondwoman [of God] is certainly better than a woman who ascribes divinity to aught beside God, even though she please you greatly. And do not give your women in marriage to men who ascribe divinity to aught beside God ere they attain to [true] belief: for- any believing bondman [of God] is certainly better than a man who ascribes divinity to aught beside God, even though he please you greatly. [Such as] these invite unto the fire, whereas God invites unto paradise, and unto [the achievement of] forgiveness by His leave; and He makes clear His messages unto mankind, so that they might bear them in mind.

But we can not say that a Muslim man can not marry any Christian or Jew lady as far as it is told in Quran.

5:5 Today, all the good things of life have been made lawful to you. And the food of those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime is lawful to you, and your food is lawful to them. And [lawful to you are], in wedlock, women from among those who believe [in this divine writ], and, in wedlock, women from among those who have been vouchsafed revelation before your time -provided that you give them their dowers, taking them in honest wedlock, not in fornication, nor as secret love-companions.  But as for him who rejects belief [in God] - in vain will be all his works: for in the life to come he shall be among the lost.

    Conclusion:

A Muslim man can marry a Jewish or Christian lady if

    1. She does not worship anyone else but Allah.

    2. She is chaste.

    Hope it answers the question.

  6. a muslim man is able to marry a woman of any other religion as long as he explains his faith to her and at least ask her to consider converting.

  7. yas u are right...................i will think over it

  8. Because of difference in Quranic interpretations, that's how the Muslims are divided among them.

I say the interpretation of the verses is out of context. I can marry people of the book. And if she still beief in Christianity or Hebrew, God still send her to heaven.

  9. A hadith can not over rule a Quranic verse.

    221. Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.

  11. If you did a little bit more research besides surface you'd find that 'people of the book' refers to true believers.  This is actually obvious by the term 'people of the book' because in Islam we believe in the prior revelations and in their compatibility with Islam in belief of the oneness of Allah swt.  It wasn't until later that the words were changed but surely during the time of the prophet pbuh still some true believers existed prior to the revelation to prophet Muhammad pbuh.  There are also still some unitarian believing Christians and truly monotheist Jewish people too.  As I am sure you are well aware that there are different sects within the two beliefs of Christianity and Judaism and they don't believe all the same things.

  12. Islam allows a Muslim male to marry Chaste women of People of Book[Christian or Jew] as long as she is not a open polytheist.

BTW ,its Ibn 'Umar(ra) , the son of Umar(ra).

edit @ pillars , It wasn't  Ibn 'Umar own opinion.

Allah forbids that. Polytheist are unlawful to marry whether she is a "Muslim " , "Jew"  or "Christian".

Edit @ Asker Beatalic Messiah ,The Jews of Medina at the time of Muhammad(pbuh) said that Ezra is the son of God.

Edit@Asker Beatalic Messiah ,,,I have faith to Allah & trust to the prophet.for me Qur'an & Sunnah are better than any other Historic Evidence.

  13. You claim to be an atheist married to a Muslim woman don't you? So who are you to ask if a Muslim man can marry a woman of the books? Its not really your concern is it?

    Quran 5:5

Lawful for you are the believing women and the free women from among those who were given the Book before you, provided that you give them their dowries and live in Honor with them, neither committing fornication nor taking them as mistresses.

    EDIT

LOL i am not putting any "interpretation" on it. The verse from the Quran above says "those who where given the Books before you" what are those books? We all know its the Torah and the Bible....

Don't put words in my mouth. YOU interpret from that what you will....
