Question:

Are Muslims required to follow the word of God and the practices of Mohammed

"A wise man points to the moon and the fool looks at the wise mans finger"

Is following Gods literal word in the Qu'aran designed to remove the need to follow the messenger ?

In Christianity Jesus said "You can only find God through Jesus" hence Chrsitians worship Jesus.

Did Mohammed say the same thing ?

If not why would it be necessary to follow Mohammeds lifestyle and principles in addition to obeying Gods words in the Qu'ran

I encourage answers from anyone but am particularly interested in hearing from Muslims in order for me to learn their perspective on this.

...again this question was posted in Religion and Spirituality but am seeking factual answers hence asking here.

Peace

  1. Are Muslims required to follow the word of God and the practices of Mohammed............ yes

No, Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) didn't say the same thing. What Jesus (p.b.u.h.) said:"You can only find God through Jesus" means you should believe in oneness of Allah, Jesus p.b.u.h. never claimed to be a god or son of god. Thats a misconception in Christianity. When Christians believe in the Bible then they should believe in the Quran also because both the books ar ebeen revealed by Allah.

Allah Says (meaning): "Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allâh is the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)." But the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: "O Children of Israel! Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers. Will they not repent to Allâh and ask His Forgiveness? For Allâh is OftForgiving, Most Merciful. The Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary), was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother [Maryam (Mary)] was a Siddiqah [i.e. she believed in the words of Allâh and His Books (see Verse 66:12)].

As for Muhammad (p.b.u.h.),Allaah Says: "Whoever obeys the Messenger, has obeyed Allaah." [Quran; 4: 80]

And (what means): "Say (O Muhammad): If you (really) love Allaah, then follow me, Allaah will love you and forgive you your sins." [Quran; 3: 31]

Jesus (p.b.u.h) as a prophet of Allah. he came to teach people about the oneness of Allah, but people started worshiping him. Which is absolutely wrong.

    Hope you understand~!

  2. Muslim do not believe Jesus is God, he is a created being of God, and Jesus has all the faculties of a human being, (eating, drinking, desires call of nature and the rest) and God is above any human want.

The Koran is a book of Law, Guidance, Scientific instructions, (geology, anthropology, botanic, biology, cosmos mapping and many many more) Mohammad would never have known this, and at that time nothing like this is known.

We follow what Mohammad instructs us on the social survival, how to approach ones family, neighbours, perform the Hajj, in business, birth and death its too much to list.

The Koran is from God. Book of spiritual instructions

The Hadeeth is from man Book on Social survival

Hope that answer your question buddy

  3. When has God ever sent only a book without a prophet?  We are human beings and God in His wisdom sent us the best of human beings to be an example for us.  These were the prophets.  We follow the example of our prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings of God be upon him, who was as his wife Aishah described him 'a walking Quran'.

  4. [3:31] Proclaim: "If you love GOD, you should follow me." GOD will then love you, and forgive your sins. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

majority muslims do the same,,they read Glorious Quran but follow,Muhammed in Hadith books, and they quote "Obey Allah and Obey Rasool"

and under this SINFUL understanding of 'Obey Allah Obey Rasool"

they trust that Prophet Muhammed Preached Quran BUT didnt Practice it.Muhammed disobeyed Allah's Commands.

the description of Prophet in Hadith books is described as a very confused man,

all hadith followers are rejectors of Glorious Quran if not totaly then partialy

these hadith followers REFUSE the following

"We sent down to you THIS BOOK truthfully, confirming all previous scriptures, and superseding them. You shall judge among them according to what is sent down from God (this book), and do not follow their wishes if they deviate from the truth.... You shall judge among them according to what is send down from God (this book); do not follow their wishes, and BEWARE lest they divert you from that which is sent down to you from God (this book).... Would they seek the laws of ignorance? WHO IS BETTER THAN GOD as a lawmaker, for those who sincerely believe?" (Quran 5:48-50)

MUHAMMAD FORBIDDEN FROM UTTERING ANY RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTIONS OTHER THAN QURAN

"This (Quran) is the utterance of an honorable messenger. It is not the utterance of a poet; rarely do you believe. Nor is it the utterance of a soothsayer; rarely do you take heed. A revelation from the Lord of the universe. HAD HE EVER UTTERED ANY OTHER RELIGIOUS UTTERANCES (attributed to us), we would have punished him severely, then we would have stopped the revelation to him (fired him). None of you could have protected him against us." (69:4047)

These very clear verses teach us that Muhammad was forbidden from uttering any religious teachings beside Quran. The strength of the Arabic text cannot be fully translated to English. But the powerful expressions leave no doubt whatsoever that the Prophet's sole function was to "DELIVER" Quran, the whole Quran, and NOTHING but Quran.

MUHAMMAD ORDERED NEVER TO DEVIATE FROM QURAN. DEVIATION MEANT SEVERE PUNISHMENT

"They almost diverted you (O Muhammad) from our revelations to you; they wanted you to fabricate something else to consider you a friend. If it were not that we strengthened you, you almost leaned towards them a little bit. Had you done it, we would have doubled the punishment for you in this life, and after death; no one could have protected you against us." (17:73-75)

    the refuse the following too

[3:18] GOD bears witness that there is no god except He, and so do the angels and those who possess knowledge. Truthfully and equitably, He is the absolute god; there is no god but He, the Almighty, Most Wise.

[37:35] When they were told, "Laa Elaaha Ella Allah [There is no other god beside GOD]," they turned arrogant.

ask a hadith follower why do you reject 3:18 and 37:35 ?

if you love Allah than Follow Prophet,Proclaim the above Shahadah, for it was Uttered by My Prophet Muhammed ,Represented by Glorious Quran and not a confused man in hadith books

Although God declares that Quran is FULLY DETAILED, & shall be the only source, the majority of Muslims have been duped into following the conjecture known as Hadith & Sunna.

"Shall I seek OTHER THAN GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed THIS BOOK FULLY DETAILED? ....The word of your Lord is COMPLETE, in truth and justice. Nothing shall abrogate His words; He is the hearer, the omniscient. Yet, if you obey the majority of people, they will take you away from the path of God. That is because they follow CONJECTURE, and they fail to think." (6:114-116)

"They insist upon following conjecture, when the guidance is given to them herein from their Lord." (53:23)

  5. The Glorious Qur’an mentions in several verses, “Obey Allah and obey His Messenger”.[Sunnah(Hadith)=Obey Messenger]* A true Muslim should only follow the Glorious Qur’an and the Sahih Hadith.

He can agree with the views of any scholar as long as they conform to the teachings of the Qur’an and Sahih Hadith. If such views go against the Word of Allah, or the Sunnah of His Prophet, then they carry no weight, regardless of how learned the scholar might be.  A true Muslim will not follow any ruling or teaching of any great scholar of Islam if that particular ruling or teaching contradicts the Qur’an and Saheeh Hadith.

Allah knew that even in the Muslim Ummah there will be many people who claim to be Muslims (i.e. claim to submit their will to Allah) but practically will not follow Allah’s commands.

Allah refers to such people in the Qur’an as lip service Believers (Al Qur’an 5:41). Thus we can conclude that those who claim to be Muslims but do not follow Qur’an and Sunnah are Lip-Service Muslims.

Those who follow the Qur’an and authentic Hadith should not change their label, and stick to the best label given by Allah (swt) i.e. Muslim and which the Prophet also called himself.

       * Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and beware (of evil): if ye do turn back, know ye that it is Our Messenger’s duty to proclaim (the Message) in the clearest manner. (5: 92).

        * O ye who believe! obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: that is best, and most suitable for final determination. (4: 59).

        * Say: “Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger: but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance.(24: 54).

        * And whoever obeys Allâh and His Messenger, Allâh shall admit him in the Gardens underneath which rivers flow. (4:13)

        * And whoever obeys Allâh and His Messenger, he has won a great success. (33:71)

        * And we sent no messenger, but that he should be obeyed by the leave of Allâh. (4:64)

These are only a some of the verse ordering to obey the Messenger of Allah :s:They are many.

    Sunnah is revelation from Allah

       1. The Prophets commands by his words are revelation itself, and they are the commands of Allah by meaning sent down to the Messenger to be delivered to the believers by the Messenger’s words. So the Quran is revelation by meaning and wordand the Sunnah is revelation by meaning only.

Evidance of that is:And whoever obeys the Messenger, thereby obeys Allâh. (4:80)

It is obediance to Allah because:

       1. Allah has commanded us in Quran to obey the Messenger, so obeying him would be obeying Allah’s command

       2. The Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) teachings are not from himself, but from Allah, He is the one who tought him to teach the believers, so obeying the Prophet’s teachings would be obeying Allah.

    Also, some points regarding this

       1. The Messenger of Allah would not make up his own commands, and he wouldn’t know what Allah wants us to do unless Allah tought him what He wants, and to say that the Messenger of Allah made up things from himself without the command of Allah, would be saying that the Messenger of Allah betrayed the Message and that Allah choose an untrustworthy man to deliver His message, and that would be an attack on Allah and His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

       2. The Messenger is sent to deliver the book and explaing it to the people, and Allah states clearly that he sent Prophet Muhammad sallallau alayhi wa sallam to explain to people what Allah has sent to themAnd We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad SAW) the reminder and the advice (the Qur’ân), that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought. (16:44)

  6. well Muhammad's (pbuh) teachings never conflict with Allah's words, on the contrary, Muhammad's teachings reveal and explain Allah's words in more details, Allah (swt) says:

"(3) It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, (4) Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, (5) One vigorous; and he grew clear to view " chapter 53

which means that Muhammad (pbuh) never done anything from his own mind but inspired, and his lifestyle was also an inspiration.

the way of praying for example, it isn't mentioned in the Qur'an, but Muhammad (pbuh) taught us how to pray, and this wasn't from his own, but Allah (swt) inspired him about the technique.

  7. مَّنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللّهَ وَمَن تَوَلَّى فَمَا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا

((He who obeys the Messenger, obeys Allaah; but if any turn away, We have not sent thee to watch over their (evil deeds).)) (Surah an-Nisaa: 80)

Ibn Katheer said in the Tafseer of this Ayah:

يخبر تعالى عن عبده ورسوله محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بأن من أطاعه فقد أطاع الله ومن عصاه فقد عصى الله وما ذاك إلا لأنه ما ينطق عن الهوى إن هو إلا وحي يوحى

((Allaah states that whoever obeys His servant and Messenger, Muhammad , obeys Allaah; and whoever disobeys him, disobeys Allaah. Verily, whatever the Messenger utters is not of his own desire, but a revelation inspired to him.))

  8. The problem is with determining which are true practices and which are fabrications invented by historians. The practices are recorded in a finite text known as the Hadith text.  However, we dont know when this finite text, with a mixture of true and false practices was created. It doesnt seem to have existed in the days of the prophet or the 4 rightly guided caliphs.  We also do not have any historical accounts of the prophet p teaching  anyone the method (used now) for separating the true from the false practices from such a text.

Therefore, using the hadith text seems like a well intentioned innovative method for accumulating facts about the time of the prophet invented by followers of Islam a century or more after the prophet had passed away.  Unfortunately, it seems that some of those who practice this innovation dont regard it as an innovation, but consider all other forms of understanding the life of the prophet as an innovation and as such, wrong. Also, those who point out this confusing double standard are often disliked and sometimes regarded as outside the community of Islam by radical Muslims.

  9. As a muslim Mohammed did follow the word of god as all muslims should do but no, you don't HAVE to follow and imitate what Mohammed did,(ofcourse you'd probably end up doing the same thing as everything that he said came from the Quran and Allah anyways) but it is suggested that you do because simply put he was the ultimate muslim and therefore you're more likely to get to heaven, avoid h**l and be a good muslim by following his example... you are however required to respect him as he is a prophet.
