This year for fun i took 5 Potatos that where sprouting And planted them. Now after a while i dug them up and have found small potatos growing there. THey are all about the size of large eggs and there is even one big enough to bake! There is about 2 pounds of them. They are not green and look very nice,

Some folks say i should not eat them because they are store bought starters. Thoughts? I was planing to make scalloped Potatos with cheese....But i dont want to posion my self.

  1. if they smell like normal potatoes then why not?

  2. Definately have your potatoes and cheese...they're fine.  We grow them every year and store bought potatoes, while not starters, are fine to grow like this...just not the usual way potato growers/farmers do it.

  3. yes they are okay to eat.  Most people would call them "baby" or "new" potatos because they are small.  They will taste GREAT as scallopped potatoes..  MMM good luck!

  4. They will be beautiful.

Just give them a good washing and if there is a flaky layer of skin scrub off.

Cut in half lightly salt and steam for about 10 minutes until they are soft.

Toss in melted butter and serve.

You will pay big money to buy 'new seasons' baby potatoes in restaurants, don't spoil them

  5. Sure you can. My family were farmers and to start the next crop you cut the potatoes making sure you get an "eye" in each piece and plant them. You won't poison yourself.
