Are NON-Muslims aware of Ramadan?

Since Muslims are sure aware of Christmas and all the other cool holidays...

I think before 911, there was not much awareness of Islam and Ramadan in the United States.  Since the attacks, people have been scrambling to understand Islam and I think it is more public than ever these days.

yes some, i am. I am a baptised christian but hoping to convert to islam. I have known about ramadan for a long time too, as i have friends from African who are muslim and some from albania and also my boyfriends family is muslim

I don't think so... I mean, some may have heard of it once or twice.

My friends didn't know about it. But once I tell them, it sticks with them. But every year, when I have new friends it's the same explanation again and again. xD

Well, what do you expect. It's America. Most people are Christan.

Honestly I don't think there are very many non-Muslims who are aware of it.  I wasn't until I met my Muslim husband.

I am.. i was educated about it at school

the only thing my school got wrong about muslim faith is that they worship the Pig which is why they dont eat Pork... they dont, they think the Pig is a dirty animal and is thus dirty meat.

I am also incredibly aware of ramadan as i know a lot of muslims and i am married to a muslim man.

Honestly until the last few months I had gone my whole life not knowing what it was or anything about it. I am learning about Ramadan for for the first time and I am 29! I am also trying to learn Muslim and Islam culture and beliefs.I think it is all very interesting. I think Ramadan is quite honorable.You know here in the United States a lot of people are uneducated on it and its something worth learning about. I will be going to Kuwait soon and honestly with all I have learned so far is a real eye opener, so many things I never knew or even thought about. Its so intriging and interesting. A lot of the values are something a lot Americans could learn from,

Im a christian, i have heard about Ramadan before, but i never knew what the word really means! I met a few very nice muslim people about 5mnths ago and they toughed me about it....

From my viewpoint alot of people were well aware of it .They even reminded me Ramadan is coming up( Non Muslims)..

I was not aware of what islam meant until I met my husband who taught me about islam. So no I don't think that everyone is aware of ramadan

Some of us know about Ramadan, but I'm sure there are plenty who don't.  It's not really a holiday though is it?  Eid-al-Fitr would be more of one.  Many Muslims don't even know about it, or when it is or what breaks a fast.  Why would non-Muslims know?
