Are Navajos Tibetan?

I myself are Navajo and I've noticed that we look a lot like Tibetan people. Our culture and their culture almost match. I believe that we are Tibetans that came to America, could I be right?

  1. People from Tibet are Tibetan.

  2. Anthropologically speaking, one of the theories for the early population of the Americas is that Eastern Asians came across thousands of years ago on an ice bridge that went across the Bering Strait. I believe that would account for the facial similarities.

  3. Interesting question.  I believe in evolution.  I learned that blacks became dark because of the hot tropical sun in order to protect their skin from harmful ultraviolet radiation.  Tibetans have two features that seemed contradictory.  Their eyes have a fat layer that protects them from the cold and yet they have black hair to protect from the sun.  When I was pretty young, it occurred to me that perhaps orientals developed in Tibet because that has both cold and sun.  Since then, I have read from the Pulitzer Prize winning book by Jerrod Diamond, "Guns, Germs, and Steel" that orientals migrated out of Tibet and this was based on language studies.  The Navajo are one of the Native American groups that have a distinctive tooth pattern similar to Tibetans.  From link:

"The upper first two incisors are not aligned with the other teeth, but rotated a few degrees inward, and, moreover, they are shovel-shaped; the upper first premolar has one root (whereas the upper first premolar in Caucasians has normally two roots). The lower first molar in Sinodonts has three roots (whereas it has two roots in Caucasians).

So your observation is apparently correct.  It is interesting too that the Inca resemble the Tibetans in their colorful garb and their physiology.  It can be difficult to distinguish them and they are very distant from them, at least in miles.  They too are closely related and are sinodonts.

  4. It's quite possible...many years ago I noticed similarities between the Sand Painting that are done by both groups and both had similar designs on Pottery ,also noticed that there were similarities between  Japanese pottery and Native American going at least 1000 years back essentially the same designs ...Go to search engine, put in " Native American/Tibetan/ Japanese  .How similar the cultures......good hunting

  5. Native Americans throughout North & South America possess similar genetic traits to Asians due to the migration across the Bering land bridge.  However, Buddhism, including Tibetan Buddhism, was not prevalent during this time (the late Pleistocene).  Considering the origins and development of religion, early Native Americans most likely practiced 'animism' or a belief system in which people attribute souls to animals, plants, and other entities.
