  1. yes

  2. No they are horrible, go with a Yamaha they have More torque quieter and will go forever, just a few hundred more for a 25 hp

  3. Hi there how are you? Before buying a marine engine, regardless if it is a outboard or a inboard/outboard ask yourself what you want the engine to do and what you intend on doing with the boat. Though there are many marine engines out there remember all answers you get even my answer are based on personal opinions. Mercury, Johnson/Evinrude are your most reliable engines due to being on the market longer while Mercury being on the market the longest. While having boats all my life I have had the opportunity to have all 3. While having the the most problems out of the Johnson/Evinrude I had less problems from the Mercury. Remember that no matter who makes them you will eventually have problems because no motor is perfect. From that time on I have always had a Mercury product. For which I now have a MerCruiser I/O. Nissan, Honda, Yamaha etc have not been in the marine field for very long. Though there engines are decent they are not the best. Johnson/Evinrude used to be very bad but have gotten alot better since. Basically just do some research, by going to dealers and by word of mouth. My opinion would be to recommend Mercury just because I have very little if not any problems from them. But everyone is different. Hope this helps.

  4. I dont like Nissan had to get parts for ....

The  Honda and Yamaha are good pics for the foreign motors ....

Mercury has a good product and warranty also 3yrs the same as foreign....

The Johnson and Evinrude of which are made by Bombardier in Canada they too offer a 3 yr warranty.... I prefer the Johnson/Evinrude and Mercury motors but that is my personal opinion.....

  5. It depends on the model and year. The small 4-stroke models are the same as mercury's.40 hp & up Current tldi models have the same fuel injection system as the optimax. For the most part they are a very reliable motor.Parts & Service is a little hard to come by though.

  6. They are not reliable and good luck getting parts.  Yamaha also is not a good motor.  The only way to go with an outboard is Evinrude E-Tec or an older, not an Optimax, Mercury.
