Is it ok to allow a PA-c to give a pap test because today my physicians assistant gave me a pap smear but here is the thing she touched everything she used with her bare hands without washing them then she put gloves on and turned the little lamp on and also moved the lamp while in the process of giving me my pap test. Should i be worried?

  1. You shouldn't be worried.  Chances are slim that her hands were carrying anything.  You wouldn't believe how often people who work with patients, be they PAs or doctors, wash their hands.

And yes, PA-Cs can give pap tests.

  2. We are allowed to do them. Sounds like this one needs some refreshers in sterile environment training though. I'd mention it to the doctor.

  3. yes they can do the PAP. the speculum should be sterile. The brushes and/or brooms however are not And yes you should be worried If she touched the lamp with her glove on and them did the PAP who to say she didn't do the same thing with the person before you.

  4. Wow, that is disgusting! After being trained, she still did this? How unsanitary! You should definitely contact them about this incident, and go get an STD test immediately. I wouldn't worry too much, but it's always good to be safe. Best wishes!!!

  5. PA-C's are allowed to give you pap smears, but she did not sound that sanitary.  If you end up with a UTI you know why.  Next time ask her to wash her hands.

  6. Yes PA-Cs are permitted to give you a pap test. She should of also given you a complete work up-feel your b*****s-vaginal exam and rectal exam. Did she discuss any concerns you might have with you?

You have nothing to be concerned about and if you are , the next time you go to the doctor-do not be afraid to ask you provider to please wash their hands before they examine you. Most providers will not have a problem with this request.
