Are Pacific Tree Frogs illegal to have?

I was browsing up information about the Pacific Tree Frogs, i see that they're illegal in some states in the US. But i'm curious if anyone knows if its LEGAL to own Pacific Tree Frogs in California.

I hear that in some states you have to have a permit to own them. True?

  1. It appears that you can collect Pacific Tree Frogs in California as long as you have a sportfishing license.  

    If you plan to breed them you will need a special permit.
