Question:

Are Pedal or Paddle Boats safe?

I can't swim, never could learn, and am 60 years old. I've been wanting to enjoy some kind of water sport and have seen the paddle boats or pedal boats (same thing) and it looked like a fun thing to do on a lake as well as getting in some exercise at the same time. I don't know much about them and their safety. Are they safe from sinking or capsizing? Do you think I would have anything to fear from getting in one and actually peddling away from the shoreline? I know this sounds weird but only people that don't know how to swim and are old enough to know the dangers of the waterways could possibly understand how these things worry one.

  1. Pedal boats take a LOT of energy to move!  They are best used in VERY calm waters, like an inland lagoon or pond.  I do NOT thinkit is a good idea for you.  If you DO choose to try one, make SURE you have a life vest on and that others know that you are out there!!
