  1. Boar is the name for male pigs, bears and badgers, whilst females are called sows. The pig family, Suidae, includes Sus scrofa, whose common name is wild boar, although of course half of them are actually wild sows - this animal is the ancestor of the domestic pig. Other animals in this family include the warthog, red river hog and babirusa, among others.

  2. Yes boars are wild pigs and they are all part of the porcine family.

  3. when domesticated pigs venture off into the wild...they quickly become "wild pigs" or sometimes termed as "wild boars"..

  4. The other way around: a boar is a male pig; a female is a sow.

Wild pigs are often referred to collectively as "boars," but half of them are actually sows.

Similarly, cattle are collectively referred to as "cows," even though half are bulls.
