Question:

Are Plasma TV's Being Phased Out In Favor of LCD?

Went to visit a local electronics big box retailer and they sell Plasma, LCD and rear projection. Price points were about the same.

Sales dude indicated that since the picture on LCD and DLP rear projection had become so remarkable, particularly on LCD with the introduction of 120 Mhz processing, the Plasma was being phased out.

Any truth to that?

  1. Actually it is the rear projection sets that are becoming scarce.  Sony has recently announced they aren't going to be making any more rear projection sets.

According to this article Philips, Toshiba and Hitachi have also ditched rear projection.

  2. kinda.  plasma is know for burn ins, and LCD is thinner and has a better picture to some people.  If I was you and looking for a new TV, I'd get a LCD.
