Are Pocket Reducers worth it?

I have a steeplton table and debating getting pocket reducers. There is a pool tournament I play in that use Diamond tables and the pockets are tight. Do you think reducers can help my game on a Diamond table

  1. OK For practice but i dont like them on a table

if i practice tight shots i just set 2 balls at the edge of the pocket and shoot between them plus you can adj it as small as you want, good practice and it is free

  2. they just might. do u wanna take a chance? it depends how important the game is

  3. Pocket Reducers can certainly help with your accuracy and stroke control (part of the reason I used to practice on snooker tables, though I am not a snooker player). At the pool hall I played at regularly, there were forty  9' tables, but only one 9-footer had smaller/tighter pockets. We'd play on it whenever we had the chance. You can still 'use the pocket' on these tighter tables, but not nearly as much.

*Personally, I am not in favor of using Pocket Reducers for practical reasons.

Normal size pockets are crucial in pool for "using the pocket" to gain position on your next shot, and other strategic reasons --- it's all part of the game.

You can spend money for Pocket Reducers or simply practice some self-discipline and execution, by PURPOSELY shooting dead-center on every shot and NOT "use the pocket". Keep in mind however, that in competition you may very well need and benefit by using every part of the pocket. After all, 'using the pocket' IS part of the game.

To answer your question directly, my answer is, no. There is no need to spend money on Pocket Reducers when you'll benefit in more ways than one, with some self-discipline and solid stroking. *Hone your skills naturally, consciously, and deliberately. Your game and your skill level will improve by exercising your own efforts in the long run.

    Good luck, pool player -

  4. Pocket reducers may make you focus and concentrate better on your aiming point. If you can carry that over to a game without the reducers it might help you a bit.
