Are Pomeranian's suppose to be big?

Hello, I have a black and tan Pom and it is about 15 or more pounds, compared to other Poms it is huge. I don't even think he is a Pomeranian because his hair isn't fluffy at all, it's shiny and wavy, but he looks just like a pom and that's what it said at the pet store. He also doesn't have a huge mane of hair on his neck like other poms. Is a pom suppose to be like this or do you think he may be a mix? My cousin told me if you pull them by the neck and they cry they aren't purebred, and we tried it and my dog cried but I'm still not sure. Please help and thank you.

  1. what!!!!!!!!!!!........... that just pain mean of course its going to hurt

  2. Don't pull by the neck, that's just wrong!  Next time you're at vet ask what they think.  If you love the dog does it matter at all.

  3. You bought your Pomeranian at a pet store? ( Puppy mill) And you pulled your dog by the neck. I have no clue if what your cousin said is true but I bet its not. Its either not a Pomeranian or you are over feeding it. They are supposed to weigh between 3-7 pounds.

  4. i have a pom and she is five pounds but my co worker has was and he weighs about 20 pounds and he is full pom its just soemtimes they can get bigger but most are smalll

  5. I am a Pomeranian breeder for over 8 yrs. There are some poms that are bigger poms , this does not mean they are not pure bred. Some poms have slick coats and don't look like full blooded but they are.  In my breeding of the poms   I have had some of the bigger ones and I stop breeding the ones that throw the bigger poms , although there is nothing wrong with them. Just most people want the smaller fluffier coated poms.

And if some one pulled you by the back of the neck you would cry to. That is not the way to test for pure bred any thing.

So I am sure the Pet store did not sell you a mix breed,  Pomeranian's were bred down to the smaller size, so the bigger ones are throw backs to the old sized they use to be.  But not often. But that does not mean the pom is not pure bred.

  6. Poms are usually 3-7 pounds but they can vary quite a bit. Most people just check the papers that came with their purebred dog, rather than than pull their necks....if the pet store didn't have papers to show the dogs lineage, than they were most likely guessing at what they thought the puppy was. They want to make money! If they say Pomeranian they can charge more than if they say mix breed! Besides try pulling your cousin by the neck and see if he yelps, and what does that say about him or her?

  7. He is probably a mix, my neighbore has a pomeranion named Simba and he is about as small as my mini daschunds.

"HINT WHAT YOUR COUSIN TOLD YOU IS COMPLEATALY WRONG THAT IS CRUEL WOULD YOU CRY IF SOMEONE PULLED YOU BY THE NECK? I WOULD!

" #2Hint: MOST PEOPLE WOULD PERFURE YOU NOT BUYING DOGS AND CATS FROM PET STORES THEY USEUALLY GET UNHEALTHY PUPPIES AND KITTENS FROM PUPPY AND KITTEN MILLS, THOSE ARE WHERE PEOPLE BREED DOGS UNDER AGED AND UN FIT TO BREED FOR JUST MONEY! THE DOGS NEVER EVEN GET TO WALK ON LAND, JUST IN SMALL WIRE CAGES BY BUYING FROM A PET STORE YOU ARE SUPPORTING PUPPY AND KITTEN MILLS, WHICH MEANS THEY GET MORE MONEY TO TORTURE ANIMALS!"

  8. If you got him from a pet store, more then likely the dog is a mix of a pom and something else.  As for your cousin pulling the dog on the neck and making them cry, this is abuse and you need to tell him that it is unacceptable.  No one should purposely inflect pain on any animal.

  9. Do you have a Photo, we can't tell what breed it is without a photo. PETSTORE ARE FAT LIERS!

I have seen  dogs in there, that are CLEARLY not the breed there saying there are.

Pomeranian are not suppost to be big-Weight:  3-7 pounds (1-3 kg.) but sometimes they grow bigger.

There is another breed called a Chow Chow, they kinda look like a giant pomeranian!

Pulling the neck will MAKE ALL DOGS CRY, IT HURTS! No way of telling buy this if it a purebred or not!

Petstores are actually not a very good place to buy any animals, they are from puppy/kitten mills!

  10. Too big to be a conformation pom, you never buy a dog at a pet store, and your cousin is dumb as a stump.

Please treat this poor dog kindly, don't go pulling it by anything to make it cry ---- do that to your mean cousin instead.

  11. Okay, what your cousin said is a lie.

and you bought your dog from a pet store, do you know where pups from a pet store come from?

a puppy mill, which means the dogs are breeding non stop, they are neglected, and they are not taken care of. A lot of mixed breeds, and badly bred purebreds come from puppy mills. You should have researched the breed before you got one, because then you would not be asking this question. I can't say for sure, but i don't think it is a pomeranian. Post a picture of your dog up, then i can tell you for sure.

  12. Since you got your pup from a pet store then who knows if it pure bred.  All pups from pet store come from puppy mills and their breeding practices are very poor.  You have a very poorly bred Pom if it is even a pure bred one.

What your cousin told you is just plain wrong and cruel.  You made your pup cry for no reason at all.  It is not a way to tell if a dog is pure bred and it is nothing short of cruelty!

  13. Check out this website.  It's from the AKC. http://www.akc.org/breeds/pomeranian/ind...    It does say that Poms should be between 5 and 7 lbs.  I've never seen or heard of a Pom being 15 pounds unless its seriously overweight.  I would say it sounds like a mix breed.

  14. "Thats what the petstore told me"

Thats you're biggest mistake you made.

The second is listening to your cousin.

How old are you, anyway? 10?

  15. I have a sable Pomeranian and he weighs 26 lbs. Yours is tiny compaed to mine!!!

  16. POms are suppossed to be much smaller..under 7 pounds.

Pulling on the neck is not a way to tell if a dog is purebred or not..  ALL dogs will cry if you pull on their neck.. it hurts!

Since your dog came from a pet store.. that means he came from a puppy mill.  Either he is not purebred, or he is just a very poorly bred example of a pom.  There's no guarantees, as puppy mills have very poor record keeping and often falsify paperwork on their puppies.

  17. Dont buy from a Pet Store! (puppy mills) Accidents happen from time to time so maybe its mixed. I have seen dogs larger and smaller than the breed is supposed to be! I have seen 15 lb chihuahuas! So anyway... Post pics if possible! I dont think the breed matters on if they cry when you pull their neck.....

  18. um that why you dont buy dogs from pet stores.

pomeranians are supossed to be like  3 to 7 pounds.
