  1. Vibe is the  only reliable pontiac because it has a toyota engine !

  2. The G5 is a nice car. It's basically a rebadged Chevy Cobalt. I owned a 91 Grand Am (P.O.S.) and a 96 Firebird (loved it). So it's a hit or miss with that brand. The G8 is an Australian import & I hear it's nice. The G6 has some relaibility issues. But to answer your question, the G5 is nice as long as you can step up to the Gt trim b/c it has a bigger engine, nice stereo, & better style imo. G'luck.

  3. As you have already read above, don't buy a Pontiac and don't plan to resell it either.  Pontiac is among the worst brands for resale, American brands in general are near the bottom.  Example if you buy this car for $14K in 3 years with only 45K miles you can trade it in for $6000, if you bought a Honda Civic for $16K you could get $10K as trade in, that's an additional $4000 loss by choosing the Pontiac.  Some other nice options are the Mazda 3 and Hyundai Elantra which rank way higher and drive better then the G5.  If you must get the G5, lease the car so its not your problem after the 2-3 years is up.

  4. most of them are just remember to get it checked with a mechanic..

  5. Pontiacs are just as reliable as any other car brand. I have owned two pontiacs, and LOVED them.

The G5 is a nice little car (basically the exact same thing as a Chevy Cobalt), but it has a relatively short future. I dont think it will be picked up after 2010. Due to this there may not be as many replacement parts available (the cobalt has been around since 05 I believe and also wont be picked up after 2010). Given the choice I would choose a Cobalt. A few more features, and they come available with a turbo 4 cylinder or a supercharged version (if you spring for the ss).

Otherwise they are new cars so reliabiltiy is hard to tell as none of them have very many miles on them.  Other pontiacs in the past (including the Grand Am which the G5 is based off) have had very good reliability records.

The G5 is a fun car to drive with a very youthful image. I wouldnt mind owning one once my Bonneville kicks the bucket.

  6. Not anymore no. After a year or two, it will start to fail in many ways. You'll see.

  7. Generally, General Motors is near the bottom end of the reliability spectrum; the Pontiac line is closer. The statistics are:

    (1) The Pontiac line has the second largest number of entries on Consumer Reports' 2008 list of Used Cars to Avoid, after some correction is made for the size of its offerings (the number of entries on the Used-Cars-to-Avoid list divided by the number of Used Car Reliability Verdicts). The Pontiac line has a score of -2.2 by this quality measure, the Hummer line (which GM is hoping to dispose of), -2.0, the GMC line, -1.9, the Chevrolet line, -1.3, the Saab line, -1.1, the Cadillac line, -.9, and the Saturn line, -.9. For reference, the Five Best have scores of 0.0: Toyota's Scion line, Fuji's Subaru line, Honda's Acura line, Toyota's Lexus line and Toyota's Toyota line.

    (2) The Pontiac line has the lowest 5-year Reliability Percentrank average of all of GM's lines with a 5-year Reliability Percentrank average (the Hummer is too new to have a 5-year average). The Pontiac line's 5-year average is .24, the Oldsmobile line, .26, the Saab line, .26, the Cadillac line, .27, the GMC line, .28, the Saturn line, .30, the Chevrolet line, .32, and the Buick line, .49. For reference, the Hyundai line has a 5-year average of .41, Nissan, .70, Subaru, .77, Honda, .84, and Toyota, .89.

    (3) The Pontiac line has the third lowest 1998-to-2007 Used Car Reliability Verdict history of GM's lines. By this reliability measure, the Pontiac line has a score of -.51 (on a scale of -1.00 to +1.00), the Hummer line, -.88, the the Oldsmobile line, -.58, the Cadillac line, -.44, the Chevrolet line, -.28, the GMC line, -.23, the Saturn line, -.17, and the Buick line, -.05. For reference, the Hyundai line has a score of +.20, Honda's Acura line, +.67, Toyota's Scion line, +.72, Toyota's Lexus line, +.82, Honda's Honda line, +.83, and Toyota's Toyota line, +.84.

    (4) With regard to durability, AutoOnInfo.net's detailed studies indicate that the Pontiac line is the worst of GM's lines. The stats suggest that a typical 7-year-old Pontiac product is as troublesome to own as a typical 36-year-old Toyota, a 7-year-old Oldsmobile - a 35-year-old Toyota, a 7-year-old GMC - a 35-year-old Toyota, a 7-year-old Chevrolet - a 34-year-old Toyota, a 7-year-old Cadillac - a 32-year-old Toyota, a 7-year-old Buick - a 24-year-old Toyota, and a 7-year-old Saturn - a 17-year-old Toyota. (The Hummer line is again too new to offer data.)

Paragraph (4) was misphrased and was corrected on August 24, 2008.

  8. GENERAL MOTORS CARS ARE ALLL JUNK....SORRY TO PUT YOU DOWN...SUE THEY ARE INEXPENSIVE...BUT THEY ARE CHEAP...THE DEX-COOL COOLANT EATS YOUR ENGINE OVER TIME.....THEY ARE JUST CHEAP UNRELIABLE CARS... GET A NISSAN OR A TOYOTA...GREAT ON GAS...AND ALL YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IT CHANGE THE OIL....

  9. I had a 1996 Grand Am and a 2000 Grand Am and never had any problems out of either of them. My friend just got a G6 about a year ago and it has already been in the shop. She's been having a lot of rotor problems. So I guess it just depends. Some are good and some are bad. You can't go wrong with a Honda though if you're looking for a reliable car. I had a 2001 Honda Civic and put over 100,000 miles on it and we never had problems with it either. It also got up to 40 miles per gallon.

  10. The G5 is pontiac's version of the Chevrolet Cobalt,  Not a horrible car, but not a leader in its market segment, either.
