Question:

Are Prismacolor pencils worth the money?

I was thinking of getting some... but are they worth it? Are they that much better than cheaper pencils? I really have no idea, so any help would be great.

Also, does anyone know anywhere that sells them in the UK? Not to the UK, but actually in, because shipping is quite a lot. I did find one eBay shop, but they only have single pencils instead of sets.

  1. There is another ebay seller in the UK who sells sets and his postage is free. I think the shop you found is mine by the way. I'm a huge fan of Prismacolor thats why I started the shop.

Refueled have sets and they are UK and that guy on ebay (look in the normal listings though not shops) and me (why not try out one or two pencils before splurging on a set??)

Hope that helps, and it is not a plug for my shop!

  2. A lot of people seem to swear by Prismacolor pencils, but I couldn't tell you what's so great about them.  I think they are higher quality than most colored pencils, but frankly, if money is a concern, you may as well use the cheaper ones.  I recommend Crayola.  Sorry, I have no idea about where you could shop, since I'm here in the U.S.

Actually, on a second read, I'm not sure whether you meant colored pencils or regular ones.  If you mean regular pencils, Prismacolors are pretty good.  I use them.  But the main reason I use them is for a variety of lead hardnesses (3B, 6B, 3H, etc.).  If you just want HB pencils, there isn't too much differerence between them.

May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you.

  3. I believe they are, their great quality and blend and shade terribly. The money is a concern, though; so I buy mine from an art supply shop online. There's usually some really good buys, and sales- up to half price on a 72 Prismacolor set. I'm not sure they ship to the UK, though. You might want to search Amazon.com for some sets- they usually offer discounts as well.

If your tight for money, though, I would stick with Crayola. Their still great pencils.

    Good luck, and draw away!

  4. There are other colored pencil manufacturers but their product will cost you a lot. But for me Prismacolor pencils are the best combination of quality to money. They have a rich color that coats the area well and blend well, too. I only order them in my class because the end result is the best bang for my money.
