I was thinking about getting a Roborovski dwarf hamster. I have had experience with Syrians and Chinese dwarf hamsters, but I have never had a Roborovski. Are they friendly? Are they easy to tame?

I saw several at the pet shop today and they look so sweet and loving. I just wanted some opinions to help me make my decision..I will not be getting one before next Thursday.

  1. Robo dwarf hamsters are sweet.  They are also extremely skittish and fast.  They are actually the FASTEST hamster.  Robo's do well in same s*x pairs or multiples.  Keep in mind that if you get a Robo, you need to have an area in your house that you can play with them on the floor without them getting away.  They can get out of your hands very quickly and a fall can easily kill them.  They are not really easy to tame.  It is possible, but you have to be careful that they don't get away from you.  So, in short, yes they are sweet, they do not normally bite, but they are not easy to tame because of how quick they are.  email me if you have more questions.

  2. They are very sweet, but in my opinion they're not necessarily easy to tame.  They're lightning quick and would be difficult to get them to hold still.  I would be very nervous taking one out of the cage to play.

I got one from a friend who couldn't keep him, and he has a nice big cage to run and play in but I can't really have him out b/c I have cats and I don't want anything bad to happen.

I'm interested to see what others say.

  3. Some. Dwarf hamsters have not been domesticated as long as other hamsters, like the teddy bear hamster. Dwarfs are more likely to bite you. I have a chinese dwarf hamster, and he is the sweetest! I guess I lucked out and got a good one, lots of people say dwarfs are the nastest, but I totaly disagree! If you get a dwarf, you need to get them use to you, hand feed them their fav food. Pet them in their cage before you try to hold them, let them get use to you The more use to you they are, the friendlyer they will get.

  4. Robos are very friendly and almost never bite. They bite so unoften that it is almost unheard of! They are easy to tame, just really hard to handle. My robo once jumped off my hand and ran so fast across the living room that you could hardly see him! he crashed into a wall and went spinning! It was really sad but funny! It scared the c**p out of my little sister and she ran around screaming bloody murder. They are extremely entertaining to watch and are sooooo adorable! It looks like they have little eyebrows! A word of the wise, you should play with him in a room that has no openings because they are adepts at escaping. Handle them close to the floor or over a soft surface because they love to jump. Hope you get a little robo because you will have a lot of fun with him!

  5. My sister has one and its very nice. We let it out all the time(it play with my dog).
