  1. From my experience, yes. Our airshow team flew MiG-17's  for 4 years, and now fly the L-39 jet. The MiG engines are 1950's technology, but gave us very few problems.

    The L-39 uses a more modern engine that is also used on a Russian airliner. The engine was produced in the Ukraine, which was part of the USSR at the time. These engines have been quite reliable for us, and we don't treat them gently.

    Quite a lot of ex-Soviet engines are flying on US-owned warbirds.
