Hi, i heard that when u apply to mcmaster engineering that you have to do engineering 1 then you apply to the different sectors of engineering, and so depending on your GPA, you either get water engineering or the best engineering there is... SOOOO my question is : is this the case with ryerson engineers also? or do u stay in the program you applied for in highschool.

  1. Hi again,

Can't answer for the Mac side of things (I think you should check up on that too, go to their website), but at Ryerson you apply to a specific program.  When I studied there, you applied to a discipline and then in the final two years you had the option to choose a "sub-specialty" if available.

So when I applied to Ryerson, Electrical and Computer Engineering were one option for the application: Electrical Engineering.  You applied to Electrical Engineering and then chose either the Electrical or Computer option for the final two years.  It has since changed and you apply to either Electrical or Computer Engineering.  If you get accepted to Aerospace Eng, you are in Aero Eng for all 4 years.  Same with all the rest (unless they have sub-specialties).  Don't know much on the sub-specialties for other eng departments, but it's pretty standard stuff across the board.  It's basically a difference of 2 or 3 courses.  Instead of field theory 2 I took a programming course in 3rd year - so really not that big of a difference.

When you are choosing a sub-specialties (if it's an option), there are no real mark requirements because typically, and very surprisingly, you get an even mix of people choosing both options so you typically get exactly what you wanted.

So, no, this is not the case with Ryerson.  You stay in the program you applied for in high-school.

    Hope this helps.
