Are SAAB vehicle more expensive to ensure?

I heard that it's not a good idea to get a SAAB vehicle because insurance companies tend to charge more for these kinds of vehicles.

Is this true? does anyone have fist hand knowledge of this?

  1. SAABs are quick but safe. They are sporty but do not fall in the sports car category. Insurance rates also depend on the driver's age and not necessarily the car. Younger drivers in the age range of 18 to 24 pay higher insurance rates. Normally SAAB cars are charged at the standard rates.

  2. While I don't own a Saab, I have been looking into purchasing a late model (2006-7) 9-3 sedan or convertible and have not noticed the insurance estimates that I've been getting to be much higher than any other entry-level sport-luxury car. (Think Acura TSX, BMW 3-series, Audi A4, and, though this might be a stretch, a loaded Toyota Solara SLE convertible.) Though it's a rather niche brand, it is still considered a sport-luxury marque in addition to being foreign/European, so insurance will be more expensive than, say, a comparable Japanese or American midsize.

Expect to pay even more if you're looking at the 9-3 convertible, as drop-tops always command higher insurance rates (especially soft-tops like the 9-3).

And while you may not have to worry about overpaying for insurance, you should expect your repair bills to be higher than your average vehicle as the car ages thanks to the expense involved in maintaining any kind of turbo-charged (or other forced-induction) engine.

Best of luck with your research, and go Saab! :-)

  3. well yes.. insurence companies base on age and type of vehicle and driving record...like for me i got a 99 9-3 n im 18..its bout a 900/6mo a

  4. If a car is a luxury car, sportscars, turbocharged, supercharged, or expensive to buy, then it is expensive to insure.

The Saab's are turbocharged luxury sports sedans, so they are expensive to insure.

Similar to what you would pay for a BMW, Audi, Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes, Volvo and Jaguar.

All of these companies compete with each other and are more expenxive to insure and maintain then other car makes. And all of these car makes also require premium gas.

  5. Boy i never heard that about a Saab. But they do make some sporty looking models so could be.But they do in General get great gas mileage if that means any thing to you.

  6. I've owned both a Saab 900 and a Saab 9000 and my insurance rates were never higher than normal. Saabs are very well built and safe cars. I was once ran off the road by an on coming 4x4 that was heading right at me and I was ran off into a deep ditch and flipped briefly onto the cars passenger side, with no injury to me and only minor damage to my Saab 900 I'm sure if this happened in most American cars I would have been seriously hurt.

  7. Nah don't worry about it. While yes, Saabs are sort of sporty and quick with their turbocharged engines, they're classified as more upscale/luxury cars than sports cars. When I turned 16 I was looking around for all sorts of insurance quotes. At the time I was looking at 1999-2001 VW Jettas with the 2.0l 4-cyl with ~120hp. Then I found my Saab 9-5 with a 3.0 liter turbo V6 with 200hp and it was actually cheaper for me to insure than it would have been to insure a Jetta. Good luck, and go buy a Saab!
