Question:

Are Searching Costs Legit?

For those that are searching or have searched have you ran into places that charge you? If so was it expensive and are these organizations legit?

I started my search and I have received a few replies, directing me to other sources. I have yet to run into anybody asking for money, just possible donations. However, just curious if I should run into people asking for money if it is normally a scam or do they have legit searching organizations where you would have to pay a fee?

I will say the main issue I am running into is the language barrier. That sucks, considering I use to know it.

  1. I think you just have to fine them out for who's legit and who isn't. I think that there are some genuine legit search angels who have a heck of a lot invested and usually don't ask for a penny, but a small donation for their time and effort would be nice.

I also think that there theifs out there who charge an arm and a leg to search for adoptees and surrendering parents and they scam you.

Then there are the people who charge an arm and a leg and reunite you.

Everyone and their brother  ( pun intended ) is out there charging something, or volunteering, reuniting or taking your money. Its hard to weed out the crooks for the genuine legit people.

  2. You have to be very careful about those that ask for money - some people just don't care who they scam.

I do know that some are legit - but always ask around first (other adoptees) - and check things out before handing over your hard earned cash.

ETA: in the USA - 'Kinsolving' are known to be reputable - I believe. They cost a bit - but they get results.

They're good when all other leads have dried up.

  3. for me, i did a paid search after trying on my own for 8 years.

    mine was legit.

personally, i would pay all over again, but that's just me.  i HAD to know and i had already spent years looking.

ETA- i think it was $800
