Are Shimano Dura-Ace SL-7800 downtube shifters indexed?

I was wondering if Shimano Dura-Ace SL-7800 downtube shifters are indexed like other modern shifters, or if they are friction shifters like old downtube shifters?

I looked on the shimano website and didn't say specifically either way

  1. They'll actually be both. There should be a little ring/switch, which you turn to choose either friction, or indexed - well at least that's the case on my 105 shifters.

  2. I can't help you with this question, but I just wanted to say thanks for asking a reasonable question that actually has a correst answer. It's refreshing to see a literate post that doesnt involve an open ended or childish question such as "WaRe CaN mE gEt ChEeP rAcE bIkE lIkE lEsS tAn ToO hUnDeRd DoLaRs?" Again, thank you.

My best guess would be that they're indexed though, just like the Dura-Ace bar end shifters. Shoot an e-mail to Shimano, they'll be able to tell you for sure.

  3. Yes they are. That's why they are labeled for the speeds they work with.

  4. yes, they are indexed.
