Are Sigma DG lenses compatible for Nikon's D700 FX sensor? Or will it switch to DX mode?

I looked at the Sigma website and they say the DG lens is designed for both full frame and APS-C sensored cameras

I guess the question we all are asking, is why would you buy a very high end camera and then go cheap on your lenses? ... in three or four years you will be buying a new body (because of the advance of technology), yet lenses should last for decades.  Buying Nikon lenses are an investment.    My guess is that you have been talking to a salesperson and they have pointed you to the much higher margin (higher profit for the store and more for the sales person) third-party lenses ...
