They feel so comfortable around the gym, and I am after a new pair of cheaper running shoes- would they do the job or is it not what they're made for?

  1. That depends...

There is a school of thought (google "POSE Running") who believe that we should run with minimal footwear to strengthen ligaments etc, and that the most important thing is the way you run i.e. teaching good running technique by encouraging midfoot running rather than heel striking etc.

If you naturally run on your midfoot and don't heel strike you could get away with these.  Many seasoned veteran runners run in shoes like the Silvershadow.

However, if you pronate excessively, or supinate or heel strike strongly, then I suggest you get a proper running shoe with all the relevant technology in it.  Decent brands are Asics, Saucony, or Mizuno.

  2. They are just made to take money off your pocket
