They may have only played Richmond last night, but they also only had about half their best team on the field (missing Riewoldt, Hayes, Ball, Maguire, L Fisher, Baker, Goddard and more).

There are so many great things happening at St Kilda which have been lacking... ie. a ruck (there was none), an adaptable forward line that no longer relies on 1 or 2 key players, a highly skilled midfield, and a great back line that can hopefully stay injury free this year.

What has killed the saints the last few years has been injuries, so if they can keep those to a minimum, I think they are a huge chance at the flag.

After years of disappointment... this could be it. Go saints.

They've recruited well, now if they can train well and adopt a more sophisticated strategy than "kick it to the big guy" then yeah, they're a really good chance this year.  I just wasted my last $20 on my Centrebet account on them for the flag (good odds - I don't think they're dead certs but they're a real chance).

EDIT: OH come on Jaryd - King lasted eight quarters of Grand Final footy in two weeks last year and came away smiling both times.  Let's see him struggle for breath before we write him off as too old! :-)

We should hope so and after watching part of the game on TV last night, we can only hope that St Kilda will deliver this year.

I thought they had a great chance few years ago but some of those in charge lost sight of that and thought they were more important than the club and allowed personal differences to influence their decisions.

So heres hoping they have put all that behind them and are ready for the finals.

well big kev, you raise a good point. there is no doubt that they have a very good forward line. i dont see much in the ruck though. king and gardiner are getting too old to last 4 quarters. rix hasnt played a whole lot either. sure you can throw kosi in the ruck, but he is very injury prone and i think is better suited up forward.

so i think if st kilda are to be a legitimate threat in the finals this season, they must do well in the ruck.
