  1. LOL of course they are. People are prejudiced everywhere and if they say different they are lying. Prejudice is natural.  The word means to "pre judge" and every person or culture pre-judges those who are different from themselves.

However, most everyone works to overcome that! If you are open and friendly to the people you play and study with, they will be open and friendly to you! Your Aussie accent won't hurt either! ;) I would highly suggest that you accept your scholarship, come over here and play ball and have a great time!

I've hosted 13 exchange students now. All of them have encountered prejudice from kids at school ... at least a little bit. You will too. But, if you look, you will see it's not really aimed at you personally, but more at a distrust of "foreigners" in general. Like I stated earlier -- EVERYONE has a prejudice or distrust of people different from ourselves. It's a natural part of life. You do too!

However, be assured that 90% of the people you will run into don't allow that natural distrust to guide their lives and will welcome you if you are open to them! THAT is the true meaning of "not prejudiced". If you work to overcome that initial distrust of someone different than you discover a whole bright new world with lots of great friends!
