I will be taking AP calculus this following school year. Is it good if I purchase a TI-89 calculator? I know that 89's are not allowed on some tests, however I live in California and plan on only taking AP Cal and the SAT tests, and they are permitted on those tests, so keeping that in mind. would TI-89 calculators be the right for me?

  2. sure, I've taken precalc and ap stat with TI-89, and will be taking AP calc next year

  3. As oppossed to regular calculators? If so then Heck Yes! They make life SO much easier. I definitely say its worth it. And at my school it was required to have on.

  4. Yes probably!!

  5. The TI-89 calculator is awesome, but it isn't particularly necessary to have a calculator for Calculus or the next class. Learn to sketch the 2D/3D graphs first. I've just completed Calculus in college without the luxury of a graphing calculator; we're not permitted to use them during tests, so it's basically useless to practice with one. It's a great reference source, but if you plan on continuing with Calculus and/or any other advanced math throughout your college years, it's not a bad idea to skip the calculator. Well, I guess HS is okay.

P.S. You don't HAVE to spend $170. TI-83/84s are great too! The best Calc students NEVER have the best calculators-they may not even have one at all...
