Tyler's answer is correct most of the time which I why I gave it a thumbs up. Lately however some cable systems have added on demand channels that are free (don't cost more than the monthly fees).  Such channels usually are for local video uploads from customers, local cable news on demand, public service channels on demand and some channels that come with the digital package such as A & E on demand and so on.  But for the most part HBO, Show Time and the like or any channel that offers first run movies costs so much per day or so much per show.

Most tv shows on the tv are free on demand. Most cable companies have quite a few fre-on-demand channels with tv shows, movies, sports programs, etc. Also, if you have the premium channels you get the premium channels on demand free as a perk.

Otherwise, you can usually watch them free online.

no.  the are on demand because you ask to watch them by clicking on it.. and then you have to pay for the one you choose. the same goes for movies.
