  1. Hong Kong is now a territory of China, but it is a special economic zone, especially for foreign businesses, since it just came under their control in about 1997 from the British.

China claims that Taiwan is just a renegade territory of the mainland that will eventually rejoin. However, many Taiwanese see themselves as their own independent nation and just had presidential elections a few months ago. Taiwan is currently not recognized as a country by the majority of the rest of the world. So the controversy continues.

  2. Taiwan is tricky.  Many countries, in its relations with Taiwan, deal with it like an independent nation.  But, their recognition as a soverign, free, nation is up in the air.  I don't know how many countries recognize Taiwan as a nation.

Hong Kong was a British colony.  Now its owned by China...I think it might be a territory...wait, its actually and administrative region of China.  Kind of like a territory in a way. Its confusing.

Good luck. I know its difficult.

  3. Taiwan is also known as 'The Republic of China' and is where the legitimate government of China fled to after the communists seized power in 1949.

Hong Kong is a 'Special Autonomous Region' of the People's Republic of China, and whilst it is under control of Beijing, they have a more open and democratic society, as per the conditions of the handover of 1997.

  4. Taiwan is a renegade territory, it rejects the laws and control from the rest of China.  It is only fear of nuclear war with the US that stops China from invading.

Hong Kong is a Chinese city, but the laws their are different because the Chinese don't want to lose the international businesses that operate there.  Gradually, the rest of China will be more like what Hong Kong is now.

  5. Hong Kong was a British territory, an enclave in China until 1997 when they gave it back to China under the condition that it be a democratic and capitalistic society for 50 years after that.  Taiwan is not a Chinese territory but China has aspirations of annexing Taiwan into China (The People Republic of China).  Taiwan is internationally known as ROP or the Republic of China.

The leaders of Taiwan used to be recognized as the leaders of China in exile and then it was asserted that Communism was in China to stay so many countries switched recognition from Chinese Taipei to the Chinese mainland.

I personally denounce China's claim to Taiwan.  It is the same as that lain upon Tibet.  If the local population doesn't want to be exploited, annexed, and assimilated even annihilated then why would they you commit such crimes against humanity?  The IOC does not give a f!ck about human rights.

  6. well they are both different.hong kong is part of china also know as the prc under the 1 country 2 systems policy, while tawan is basically technacally independent with its own army, police, government, basically independent in all but name

  7. Taiwan is an entirely different country.  Hong Kong is a city in China.  Decades ago Taiwan was a Chinese territory, but there was a massive revolution at which time Taiwan became independent.  The struggle was long and hard, but Taiwan is completely indepedent of China at this time.  China wants Taiwan back, but the U.S. has openly declared that they are allies with Taiwan and would fight against communist China if they ever made a move on Taiwan.  The deal with Hong Kong is that it was a British colony from the 1800's on until 1997 when the control of Hong Kong was returned to China.
