Question:

Are TalkTalk actually allowed to do this?

My landline and internet provider (TalkTalk) cut me off the other day - with absolutely no warning whatsoever.

I received a bill and had paid a portion of it off. A couple of days later (thursday), talktalk phoned to ask when the rest of the bill would be paid. I told them that some would be paid the following day, and the rest on the monday, and was told ok, they'd leave a note on my file.

Friday afternoon I go to switch on my internet, and it tells me to contact talktalk's finance dept.

I phone them (from my mobile) and am told i will be reconnected within 48 hours of me paying the rest of the bill!!

Can they just cut people off with absolutely no warning??

  1. no they cant, especially as you have given them notice of when you will be paying the bill....contact Citizens Advice and get them onto the case with you, or better still contact watchdog :)

  2. They should give you some warning, however this could be in their terms and conditions.

When they send the bill, its due for payment, talk talk like many others will be cutting down on debtor days, however you called to say you were paying, my guess is this was not noted on your file hence they cut you off.

But in essence, can they - yes -- Should they? from what you have said - no.

    Hope this helps?

  3. I think the bill was the warning. Paying the whole thing is usually what keeps your landline going.
