I read that they were in some random piano book but i thought that they were safe, especially when parents pay to have their kids hold one at birthday parties! Maybe some species are and some aren't? Just let me know i am very confused.

  1. Tarantulas are very poisonous. But maybe there are different types. i watched a special about them on animal planet and there's a type in the jungle in some other country, and the hairs on them are poisonous and when they bite you, they inject you with a poisonous venom as well. But the hairs are a defense mechanism and the bite is to immobilize and kill their prey.

  2. ummmm yeah extremely poisnous but they're not really aggresive unless you threaten them

  3. No, they are not poisonous.

They are, however venomous.  Almost all spiders are venomous.  No one has ever died from a bite of a tarantula though.

The potency of the venom depends on the kind of tarantula. Tarantulas from the new world (Americas) have the no worse than bee sting venom. Instead though, they have these nasty hairs that they can kick off their legs and abdomen that can cause bad rashes.

Old world tarantulas (Asia, Middle East, Africa) have much stronger venom, and are usually meaner. In fact, some old world tarantula bites can require a doctor, although no one has ever been confirmed to have been killed by a tarantula bite.  Tarantulas of the Poecilotheria and Haplopelma genus from south east Asia have been known to send their owners to the hospital.
