  1. Chis are a little more fragile than most small puppies. You can not leave them a lone when they are very young. They have to be kept warm all the time. They need to be watched carefully for genetic problems and because their organs are so very small. They have to eat small amounts of food frequently. They can go into a coma when their blood sugar drops from missing a meal. I had to feed mine every 2 to 2 1/2 hrs. I am more comfortable around them now as I have a lot more experience with them. I wouldn't let any of mine leave me until they are 10 to 12 wks old and some I won't let go until they are older than that. They get tired easily and have panic and anxiety attacks making it difficult for them to breathe at times. Please give this decision a lot of thought.

P.S. Some of you people really don't know what you are talking about when it comes to Chihuahuas. Everytime someone mentions the breed, it like you cut and paste the same comments over and over.

  2. there is no real "teacup" dogs. it is a label used by puppy mills and bybs as an excuse to overprice their sickly little runts!

  3. Val are you aware that the Chi only comes in one size? And that the breed standard calls for a dog no heavier than 6lbs? The smallest acceptable weight of any dog is a 3.5 for a toy poodle?

Now as for teacups*gags* its just a fancy name for a runt to get more money out stupid uninformed trend chasing potential pet owners.

In the first year because you'll be lucky if it lives that long or longer you will have 3-5x the amount of vet bills you would have for a normal sized chi.

A dog that small with have hypoglycemia, brittle bones, behavioral and neurological problems and god knows what else. To reputable breeder associated with the Chihuahua club of america will purposely breed a dog that small and then call it a teacup

  4. They are walking vet bills that shouldn't be bred.

  5. Yes, because teacup dogs have all kinds of health problems. Look for a reputable breeder and buy a real chihuahua. Also, no dog would be happy left alone for almost 10 hours. If you can't come home during the day and check on it, the dog should be taken to a doggy day care or babysat by a friend.

  6. WTF is a teacup chihuahua!?!? Like seriously!?!? What is a teacup chihuahua. I have heard of a chihuahua. And no it is not okay to leave them for that long because Chihuahua's are really small and fragile and they need company!

  7. No, just pop them in your purse when you go out.  Of course, you will need to have oodles of money and time to take them to the Vet when the health problems kick in due to poor breeding and possibly in-breeding.  I suggest taking out a loan to cover these and if you do that, and have a kind boss who doesn't mind all the time you have to take off work to take it to the Vet I can't see a problem.  Good luck!
