i heard there are alot of burn in problems with plasma tvs. i talked to a guy at a store today and he said that they are all false rumers or they apply just to older plasma tvs. he said plasma is the way to go for gaming and movies because of the high contrast ratios. are these rumers true.

  1. I work in an electrical goods store and we haven't had a problem with our Plasma TV's in ages! It's been quite a while since I've seen a return on plasma's. The latest callback that I know about was on an AWA portable DVD player, so personally I'm not fond of AWA but as long as you stay away from them you should be fine. Currently our top model is a Phillips but Sanyo are good too. We don't stock Aiko except for a really tiny 34cm one that's not Plasma. I think your best bet would be to go with either Phillips, Sanyo or Sony (although Sony is going to be more expensive). And the guy at whatever store you want to is right, the older plasma tvs had some issues with them but the newer models have been dramatically improved.

  2. The newer plasmas are much better on preventing burnin than the older ones were, but I still would not recommend using for game play. The new lcd's have almost as good of a contrast ratio as long as you don't buy a low end model. Samsung has one that is 10000:1 and 1080p.That's pretty darn good

  3. o yea those rumors are true my friends brand new tv is a plasma i told him to get lcd but he didnt listen now he has a halo 3 map on the screen and its never coming off. so yea get an lcd and get samsung cause they are the best

  4. The sales rep doesn't know what he's talking about.

Plasmas still suffer from burn in, even the new ones. The problem has been reduced, but they are still susceptible to burn it.

Plasmas do have a higher contrast ratio and deeper blacks, but I'd go with an LCD (I have one myself).

LCD is better than Plasma in many ways

    1. LCDs are much lighter than Plasmas - you can mount them on the wall a lot easier and transport them easier, too.

    2. LCDs use 30% less power than Plasmas. If you want to save money on your power bill, go with LCD.

    3. LCDs don't suffer from burn in - which is perfect for you if you love your movies and gaming. Static (still) images can get burned into the screen on Plasmas (eg, life/energy bars from video games, even the black bars from widescreen movies can get burned into the screen).

    4. LCDs are brighter than Plasmas, which is perfect for watching sports, cartoons or playing VIDEO GAMES.

    5. LCDs have longer life spans.

    6. LCDs have a non-reflective screen. Perfect for daytime viewing.

So, LCD has many advantages over Plasma. Plasma is dead technology. I'm from Australia and last year, Australians spent $200 million on Plasma television, and $400 million on LCD!

Go with LCD mate, you won't regret it!
