I only lived in NY for 2 1/2 yrs besides that I've always been a goth or at the very least Gothic. I don't want offend thos who actually like labels. I was born and raised on St. Croix but its dull, especially when people I know refer to the way I am as a phase or " a White people 'ting". I love who & what I am. Am i really alone in the U.S. Virgin Islands?

  1. In all the years I been traveling to the USVI, that's probley the only thing with the exception of snow that I haven't seen there......

  2. I think Goth would have a hard time catching on for several reasons in the USVI.  But it is rude that someone told you it is a white person thing.  They use to tell me that about my music taste and I was no where in to Goth.

I was born in NYC too..and is what you call a Salt Water Yankee...the last thing I would want to wear when I was in STT or another island is basic black although that is all you want to wear in NYC. With the direct sunlight it is not practical nor looks good.

And you have to remember the islands are very colonial and still VERY Christian so  conformity is not only expected it is want many islander view as safe. In british VI you cannot even gain access if you have dreads or knotted hair.  So take heart that you true self may not be appreciated there..but it may someday when you return the state someone may.

  3. We were on vaction on St Croix 2 weeks ago, and either on July 11th or 12th, I was in the Pueblo Market near Christiansted, and I was standing in line behind a Goth girl at the register.....I have a thing for goth girls, ----even though my wife does not like it much----, that is why I remember it......She was probably 18-25 years old.......Let me know if it was you...If it was not you, then you are not alone!!!!!!!!!!

  4. If there are any Goths on St. Thomas they must be in hiding.  I've never seen anyone here that could be described as a Goth.  I think you really are alone.  The USVI just isn't conducive to Gothic subculture.  It's entirely too bright and cheery.  Plus there's the absence of goth music.

  5. Maybe YOU like who and what you are... but the rest of the world thinks you are weird.  I don't believe that being a Goth on a Caribbean Island, where Voodoo is practiced... would be all that SMART or all that  accepted.
