I'm trying to assemble a nice fish tank, i would like to to contain 3 Bala Sharks, 1 Blue Neon Guppy, 2 Zebra Danio, and 1 Chinese Algae Eater, but im not sure they would all be able to co-exist happily in a 2 gallon tank. there is always the option to upgrade to a five gallon tank, but i was mainly wondering if these fish could be happy? they all have the same temperature range also.

  1. Agreeing with the others. That would be way too small of a tank. Sorry.

  2. The fish, no matter how compatible, will certainly not be happy in a tank that small. I suggest getting at least a 30 gal. tank. This will make them much happier. Trust me, it is wayyy too crouded in even a 5 gal tank. Other than that, I see absolutely nothing wrong with your choice. They sound very compatible, actually. Please get at least a 30 gal tank for the fish. Best of luck to you!

  3. no way

the sharks will eventually eat the small fish

the danios need to school in groups of 6+

the Chinese algae eater will become large and aggressive

the guppy would be happier with more of the same type

  4. Even the 5 gallon will be too small for 7 fish, way too small.

  5. Woah!  Talk about massivily overstocking!

Bala's get to about 12" in lenght and need a long 55gallon tank minimum with plenty of open swim space as they are very active schooling fish.  They will also go after small fish like the guppies and zebra danios when they get bigger.

Zebra danios need to be kept in schools of 5+ which require at least a 10 gallon tank

Chinese algae eaters also get up to 11 inches and can be real beasts as mature adults.  They're fine community fish when young but as they grow they'll try to establish and defend a territory, often the whole tank.
