I was at the petstore and they had these (what I believe to be) dwarf gouramis. One was a red/pink color and the others had a blue tripe on top and a yellow stripe on bottom...what type of Gouramis are these? Are they painted fish...they looked to be...they were cute and I would like to add them to my tank but not if they are painted.

  1. Maybe a Kissing Gourami, Helostoma temminckii ( http://www.fishdeals.com/anabantids/gour... ), and a Honey Gourami, Colisa chuna ( http://www.vda-online.de/zucht/images/Co... )?  These are both natural in color, but in many cases, Gouramis are fed food laced with color enhancers, or raised in hormone injected tanks, both of which will lead to lesser colors as these fade.

EDIT: The lower quality Honey Gouramis tend to be a solid red-orange, while the better ones will have a yellow dorsal fin and blue-black stripe on their underside: http://www.azgardens.com/images/Gourami-...  As far as I know, only Kissing Gouramis are ever dyed/painted/tattooed, and even this is rather rare, only giving them "lipstick".

  2. Were these different colors all on the same type of gourami? If they are, I am pretty sure they are all painted/dyed/tattooed (whatever term you want to use)
