Are Tommy Armour golf clubs good clubs for a novice?

I need to upgrade from my cheap set I received in college and need advice.

  1. Armours are good clubs, well atleast they used to be.  The 845's were solid irons, the woods never were much though.  If you are lookimg for a good set try e-bay or find a used club store somewhere in your town, that is the best rate to go.   Also, it does not matter how cheap your clubs are, but if they are fitted exactly for you, it will make a world of difference.  Getting a fitting is pretty cheap anymore, and it should only cost  a couple of bucks a club to get them set for you.


  2. Tommy Armour 845s were in my bag for many years until I convinced myself that I needed a new set of irons. Went the Titleist route with graphite shafts to  match the Calloway Steel Heads which were also graphite. I think age is finally catching up with the old codger because the distance is shrinking with every stroke. Probably should be happy to still be playing at 85.
