Question:

Are Tulips good for a wedding bouquet?

I am planning a spring wedding and wanted yellow and white tulips with bear grass tied loose. My florist said tulips open quickly and advised not use them. I really love tulips and want a loose spring bouquet. Has anyone used tulips in their wedding?

  1. Your florist must not be up with the times!   I've used them before , and as long as you keep their temp. jut right , they are fine.

If your florist isnt doing it for you , ask around.  I have used them and the brides couldnt have been happier , plus they look pretty when they open.  Its your wedding , get what you want!!

  2. YEAH THAT IS  SUCH A  GOOD IDEA  TRY AND CONGADULATIONS :)

  3. The florist was right about tulips opening quickly, but if that's the flower you really love, just arrange for the bouquets to be picked up like an hour before the ceremony, so they'll be nice and fresh.  Then, for the reception, have a separate "tossing bouquet" to throw at the end, because the first bouquet will be quite wilted by that point,

  4. Tulips will be gorgeous.

You know what you want for you wedding ... so go for what you want.

I have used silk tulips - but not real tulips in a wedding.

    Opened tulips are still beautiful.

If live tulips are used - the bouquet should have a special time preparaion .. but they can be absolutely gorgeous.

  5. Tulips are fine, but the bouquet would need to be kept in the frig until you are ready to walk down the aisle. Once they warm up, they start to open.

If you plan to do a lot of pictures before the wedding, you might want to get a smaller bouquet for that so you don't risk "injuring" your wedding bouquet.

    Hope this helps!

  6. No idea, but we kept most of our flowers in a shower stall where the bottom was filled with ice to keep our fresh all day (we had pictures at noon, and the ceremony didn't start till 6).  Fridge would also work (but we didn't have room for them all).

  7. that sounds beautiful!  I think you have great taste.  if that florist is not confident enough to work with tulips, find someone else

  8. maybe that florist wants to sell u something more expensive or something cuz i've seen tulips highly recommended for spring weddings in several bridal mags i've been reading in planning my daughter's wedding.  imo ANY flower is perfect for a wedding bouquet if that's what the bride wants!!  and you can always go with silk....which eliminates the need for a florist.

  9. Tulips are a great choice for a spring wedding - they do have a tendency to droop as they continue growing after they are cut and bend toward the light but your florist should know how to condition them properly.

Perhaps more importantly the tulips need to be used in the right design to show them off .

There are some lovely Tulip designs on this website that may give you some ideas for a suitable design.

Maybe if your florist isn't confident working with tulips in bouquets then it may be better to consider alternative spring wedding flowers to avoid disappointment.

  10. The florist is going to give you the best advice based on their experience and abilities.  I've used tulips in bouquets but not as the main flower...just in a tight hand wrap where other flowers would be able to support them without a lot of wiring as the stem is VERY flimsy compared to the weight of the bloom.

Since you want something natural and loose, I think the tulips would look great even after they open.

    Consult another florist.

  11. Use a florist who will get you tulips that are timed right.  Unless you don't care about them being open.  I think they're BEAUTIFUL either way!

  12. I used tulips for my wedding in December and they turned out just sooo beautiful.. They had to order mine out of country b/c it wasn't their season but most florist should be able to get them and if not, go with another one.

I used red tulips and baby white ones.. oh my goodness.. i loved it b/c it totally fit my personality and the whole Christmas feeling too..

I wish you all the luck in the world and congrats. :D  They are the prettiest flower out there and they smell just lovely too..

  13. I've been to more than one wedding where they used tulips and they were gorgeous! I see them in wedding pictures all the time,  I've also seen a bride walk down the aisle with a single tulip, and it was simple and elegant.

You may want to see what your florist suggests instead, and see if you like it.  However, it sounds like you have your heart set on the loose bouquet of tulips, so ask the florist to help you pick a variety of tulips that will look okay whether they're open or closed.
