  1. The State Dept (regulated by the Office of Foreign Assets control) will grant certain licenses  which are very hard to get and highly restrict ones time and activities while in Cuba.  Restrictions for traveling legally have been tightened continually under the current administration, including ability to travel from other points of entry around the world into Cuba.  There are also restrictions on using USD's in Cuba. It is illegal and the presumption is that even if fully hosted by the Cuban government you will spend money.  You must prove that you have not.

However, you can also go without a license if you fit into a specific journalist category. And you'd better keep all supporting documents for 5 years following your trip.

Meanwhile, US citizens are very welcome in Cuba and treated exceptionally well, as are all tourists.  Highly recommended IF you can go legally.

  2. United States citizens are not free to go to Cuba.

    Sorry............

  3. Not from the US, no.  Certain people can go through Canada or Mexico.  There are severe restrictions once there.

  4. Ya we are not allowed to travel to Cuba from the US.  You can't even go to another country and try to travel to Cuba.  If you are a US citizen you are not allowed in Cuba unless you have special permission.

We can't even bring anything made in Cuba back into the US it is illegal.

  5. Actually I believe you can go to the State Department to get special permission or something like that. It is a rather complicated thing if I am not mistaken though. U.S. Citizens HAVE gone to Cuba and back though. Now if you went though keep in mind that you also have the issue of Cuba to deal with. Not sure what it is like now, just remember reading things of it a few years back at they were about as accepting as the U.S.

  6. Yes , but it's only legal when you get a license from OFAC

This license is only granted for special reasons , humanitarian, cultural, educational, familly raesons etc.

    Not for vacations.

    see http://www.treas.gov

Some US citizens travel thru Cancun or Toronto but this is considered illegal and you can get a fine up to 1000.000 $

  7. no

  8. Err ...... NO ! Maybe with special permission on rare occasions via the correct channels, but I dont think they will do this easily. I am sure it will change eventually. Many Canadians are there though.

  9. It is not legal  for US citizens to engage in any travel-related transactions with Cuba unless you obtain a special license from the US Treasury Department. They are provided only under limited conditions and not for vacation travel.

Some people will tell you that you can go from Mexico or Canada. They are wrong. You can board a flight to Cuba from there, but it's still not legal.

You can read the requirements on the US State Department website at this link:
